Il Cenacolo

Description

This elegant restaurant is in the city centre, only a few steps from Piazza Bra. It serves traditional cuisine and specialises in charcoal-grilled meats. The following are typical dishes: a taster of the three first courses (maceroni, tortellini and risotto), ham and garlic bread, aubergine with Parmesan cheese, cherry tomatoes, peppers and mixed grilled vegetables. Don't miss the mixed-meat grill. There is a good selection of wines in the wine list. Service is fast and attentive.

Not to be missed..
By DJM, 1/2/10
Il Cenacolo is one of the better Italian food experiences I've had in a long time. We went on a busy night (NYsE) so I had low exceptions on a hi-volume night. They started the table with fresh bakes bread and chapped eggplant toppings coated with olive oil. Yum. Appetizers were mozzarella covered with shiitake mushroom and atypical fried calamari. My main course was a stuffed veal on the bone (with wrapped prosciutto and (i think) spinach. Moist, meaty....and just plain tasty. As others have noted: they get the portions just right. Not too little, not too much. They have a large wine selection, and picked up a reasonable pinot grigio ($36) Great dessert menu...even on a busy night. Expect to drop $80-$100 per person if you run the gauntlet from drinks through dessert. Note: on a budget? Check them out for lunch. Smaller portions and prices. The only knock...restrooms are tiny and there's a wait on busy nights. Tip: get an early sitting and take the time to enjoy this wonderful menu.

ll cenacolo
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/3/09
after reading reviews on internet we decided that this would be a must do visit whilst celebrating our silver wedding anniversary. we have visited lots of excellent restaurants throughout europe and the food served here was definately in our top ten. however our only advise would be to book as early in the evening as possible - or run the risk of each course being served far too quickly. we did not book but maitre de was happy to seat us even though chef was clearly wanting to go home. overall the excellence of the food outshone the speed at which it was served

Our best meal in Italy
By John Mason, 9/25/07
I had read good reviews, so we booked a place on Friday night. It didn't look like much from outside, but inside it had a warm rustic look. The staff was very welcoming. The opera was about to start at the Arena nearby, so at 9:00 PM, the place was only half full. Our waiter spoke good English, and explained that there was no menu, and gave us an overview of what to expect. Then the feast began! Course after course of delicious food - never too much, always beautifully presented, and served by a very curteous staff. The food came at a steady pace, but we by no means felt rushed. At the end of the meal, a dessert trolley was rolled to the table with about a dozen choices - and the staff was happy to give a sampler of several. This was followed by complimentary drink. This restaurant is not for the budget traveller, but it did not break the bank. You can cut corners if you skip the wine, dessert or coffee, but I recommend the full experience. I will definitely return.

Great local place in pretty Verona
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/24/06
You have to see and taste it to believe it, at this place you'll find most of Italy's famous dishes in a pleasant atmosphere around a big open fire. Everything is fresh, the wine is great and there is so much to tatse that you'll forget.....the time. Ciao and Buono Apetito!

The best dinning experience ever!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/11/05
Everything is top notch, the house wine is the best. The nine course meal is a classic. Very authentic Northern Italian dinning, service is excellent, and the wine flows.

very nice place at the end of a small street
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/4/04
Il Cenacolo is easy to find because it's 2 streets behind the Pizza Bra with the famous Arena, I've been there many times and the food is great. They have no menu, you just eat lovely things and the meat is great too. It takes many hours before you're finished but you'll leave with a smile. I always leave a little bit of space for an additional icecream just around the corner underneath the arcade. One of the best places to buy an icecream. The only disadvantage about Il Cenacolo is that they don't change the menu so it's not a place to eat every day of the week. The good thing is that it's a very special place that you won't forget.

PS: we even took our son when he was 3, 4 and 6 years old and he enjoyed it too
