Poggio Antico

Description

If you like Brunello wine you will have difficulty in leaving this place. Every time you come back you like it more, and it is well deserving of many visits. The furnishings are modern, but welcoming. The cooking is "creative" without the aura of negativity this sometimes brings with it. Try, for example, the pheasant ravioli with sheep cheese fondue. The quality of the wines reflects the knowledge of the owners. The house wine is superb and the list is heavy with local vintages, but there are also wines from "rival" districts.

Very disappointing for this apparently high end restaurant
By ,
I went to Poggio Antico 5 years ago for dinner. I returned there again for lunch recently. I am still not impressed by this restaurant which is supposed to serve very good food. Poggio Antico does not serve authentic italian cuisine. The pasta dishes were swimming in too much sauce and most dishes were over salted. My pate was very french style - quite strange for an italian restaurant in the middle of Tuscany. The service was prompt but slightly condescending. For one course, the waiter actually threw my fork in place next to my plate as he couldn't be bothered to stretch a little further. The only saving grace was the Poggio Antico wines which were magnificent as usual. I would not recommend this restaurant as the food is not quite up to the standard of the prices they charge. A simple osteria in any tuscan village will serve more authentic italian food for a third of the price.
