More »The gallery of Modern Art has been in this building since 1928. It is deep inside the marvelous Park di Nervi, in a stately villa from the Serra family. This was built in the second half of the seventeenth century and has since been expanded with galleries and side annexes. The museum contains over four thousand works of art including paintings, sculptures, drawings and etchings. The original collection was made up of the collection of Prince Oddone of Savoy and the legacy of the Duchess of Galliera. It has grown, thanks to several bequests and careful acquisitions. Ligurian artists from the nineteenth and twentieth century are particularly well represented. There are works from T. Luxoro, G. Monteverde, F. Messina, E. Baroni, A. Martini, A. D'Andrade, E. Rayper and P. D. Cambiaso. The sensitive treatment of the Ligurian countryside in the works of Rubaldo Merello deserves particular note.
