We ate at Panama Hatties last weekend. Some of the best shrimp I have ever eatten. The Mahi blackened dinner was very well prepared with very good salsa I have been telling everyone that it is the place to try when at St Augustine Beach. We will definitely go back soon.
We actually went for the advertised all-you-can-eat crab legs, which they were out of. We were disappointed but decided to stay. We got a table on the top deck and enjoyed the view. They were very busy that night and we ordered drinks, which were wrong. I have an allergy to coconut and cant drink coladas, I explained this to the waitress, so I ordered a daquiri. It was a colada and when I told her it was wrong she kind of questioned me and taste it herself and although I didn't have a major reaction and they did replace it, I was not impressed with the waitstaff at all, very short and not apologetic. Our food was absolutely wonderful! No kidding. I worked in seafood retaurants for years and I know good seafood, this was better than any I think Ive ever had. I had the fried shrimp and still remember how perfect it was. Its worth tolerating the waitstaff to get to eat the food.
Awesome beach place. Expect beach place. Feel at home. I have food allergies and had not problems eating here. We got drinks downstairs. Went up stairs and enjoyed the rest of our stay. Live band. I ordered Linguine with olive oil, scallops, garlic, fresh vegie's, and fresh parmessan. Came out just the way I ordered. My husband ordered the spicy chicken sandwich. He liked it a lot! I almost ate the whole bowl, excellent! We met Kay-Leigh the bird while we were there and posted pictures of us with her facebook: Kay-Leigh Strange
We stay in the area twice a year, we are in our mid 40's and we love the place, seems like many of the people were locals which gave it a warm feel and very friendly atmosphere. Great food and price! Just the kind of place you would hope to find in a beach setting!
This place is actually quite a dump. There's bird crap all over the place and everyone smokes and the cheap, rickety PVC chairs are a dangerous liability. The food is decidedly average and one woman in our group had a draught beer that was gross and undrinkable, probably from a dirty tap system. One reviewer said the crowd was young? Not when I was there, 90% of the patrons were in the geriatric set! The Ocean breeze is the best asset of this place.
