Ristorante Diana

Description

This famous restaurant can be found in the heart of the old town, in one of the more well-known streets, an easy and pleasant walk from the Piazza Maggiore. The atmosphere is formal, the decor is old—simple with attention paid to detail. The kitchen offers typical Bolognese dishes: soup with tortellini, tagliatelli with sauce, roast beef, boiled beef, and more. Traditional rice tart and ice cream are dessert menu specialties.

Very expensive
By KM, 12/28/11
I was a solo diner and ordered water - I received a liter at an exhorbitant price, and a split of prosecco, a plate of pasta and a salad. 40€!. This, after just having a glass of prosecco and free food across the street for 5€! The food was good and the service was mediocre. I'll give my money to another restaurant next time. Watch out for the bottled water trick. Vegas is famous for it - order water and pay $8! Make sure you ask for tap water. Better yet, spend your money elsewhere. The food is good throughout Bologna.

Business Traveler from Phila.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/10/11
Being from Phila. we have a pretty good Italian base for food quality. I have to say there's nothing special here. For example, Olive Oil served n De Cecco bottles.... I can get that in the US. The wine from Chianti was bad and was withdrawn from the bill. The tagliatelle bolognese was okay. Did not stay for the gelato or coffee. Was overpriced. Atmosphere was good.

horrible
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/17/11
This must be the worst restaurant i have ever visited. The restaurtant is horribel decorateded, the staff is non intersted in you as a visitor and give no service at all. The food is very overpriced and food qualtiy is equal to zero. DOGFOOD and Mc Donalds taste even better. We had some ham and melon for starters and it tasted good. This because they didn't have to do anything to the food before serving so they didnt have the oppertunity to destroy it. The wine was also good because they didnt have to do anything else than open it to serve. WORST experienca ever. DO NOT VISIT!!!!

Avoid at all costs
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/5/10
Everything about this dining experience was terrible. The waiters were without doubt the rudest and most disinterested I have come across. They threw the food onto the table and tried to remove our starters before we had finished, in fact one of our party was actually eating hers, fork in hand when he tried to remove the plate! The quality of the food was the worst in our extensive travel throughout Italy. One of the starters was literally cubes of mortadello in a few lettuce leaves, no dressing, no presentation. It looked like dog food. The mortadello pate was like slop scraped into a dish, revolting! The pasta dishes were a joke. one of the party had the bolognese and it was literally some minced meat thrown onto the pasta, no dressing of any sort. one of our waiters, a young, unfriendly and sour faced individual was enough to put anyone off their food. The older staff member was simply rude. the lamb main course was vile, tasteless and over cooked. For this we were charged over €30 each. I am still reeling from the experience and it has put me off Bologna for good. I ahve travelled through most of Italy over the years and rate it as one of the most enjoyable places to travel in. This culinary experience was without doubt the worst ever. It was highly recommended in the Insight guide book for the city so avoid recommendations from this guide book. I give this a zero rating on all counts.

Spot a young Mr Bean !
By christopher, 6/1/10
Restaurant not busy on a Sunday night but was asked if we had a reservation. Waiter was charming and asked us to try the grilled meats. Tried the entrecote which was delicious. Have seen restaurant very busy before. Our young waiter (above) who served us was "throwing" not serving food at us. Otherwise. OK

Vastly overrated
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/27/10
I currently live in Bologna and attended Diana last month with 3 friends. All of us were disappointed. The food was overpriced, a below average quality, and quite small portions. Overall the food in Bologna is wonderful, but I would never return to this restaurant. There are far better options for the price and quality. I've asked several friends from Bologna and they have not been impressed by Diana either. The general consensus is that they have great PR, but not great food.

The worst in Bologna
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/17/09
Drove in from Rome just to eat at this restaurant. What a huge disappointment. The service ruined it. Food could have been mediocre but we were so unhappy by that point. The wait staff had no interest in our table and continued to look at his "other groups." Sweating to the point of it DRIPPING on the food! My second set of tableware was just thrown on the table. One order was brought out wrong twice because he wasn't listening(spoke English well.) So many good places in Bologna and we picked this one by reference. Too bad.

Tourist Trap
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/29/09
Two words describe this restaurant, "Tourist Trap". While the food was prepared well, the service ruined the experience. Our waiter never smiled once and actually got into a slap fight in front of the customers with another member of the staff. Very unprofessional. We sat outdoors under the awning, where we were constantly annoyed by the motorcycles and scooters passing by. (This was on a side street where the traffic was three feet away from us, not the main della Independenza). To end the night the waiter brought us the check and stood over the table as we signed, as if to make sure we didn't leave without paying. All in all, a horrible experience.

Quite good
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/24/08
A poor main course let this restaurant down. We had meat from the 'cart'. Starter and pasta were good though. The service was excellent.
