This award-winning restaurant offers creative food in a casual, contemporary setting. Flowers, pottery, wooden tables and chairs give a warm, friendly feeling to Packie's. The mood is casual and upbeat - street attire is certainly formal enough. There's a strong emphasis on seafood with scallops, sole, and cod all featuring on the menu. There are meat options too; rack of lamb and a delicious chicken with coriander and lime are very popular. For a taste sensation try Packie's signature dish, red onion tart with Cashel blue cheese. Service charge is at the customer's discretion.
The atmosphere is great and the paintings on the wall evoke a real Irland of wild and woolly.
We had a fabulous couple of meals there and have made it our first booking for an evening meal each of the three times we have returned to Kenmare
Packies was highly touted to us by several people including our hotel concierge. Although the food is quite wonderful and the menu very varied and extensive, the tables are very much on top of each other and the ambience tends to be noisy. The bar is so close to other patrons that if you are having a drink there, it is difficult for people to walk behind you and not hit customers dining at their tables. Service is fast and polite but one gets a sense for why the place is called "Packies." That is, we felt that turning over the tables was a very important thing...pack 'em in and then pack 'em out. Pleasant place but I would go to the Lime Tree before I would go back to Packies.
Fantastic food, fantastic service, friendly staff, wonderful food at a great price, overall, a fabulous place to eat!!!! Will definitely be going back. I would recommend booking well in advance as it's a popular place and would probably be very busy during the summer.
