Plered, Purwakarta

Indonesia's center of pottery and ceramic manufacturers, Plered is a small artisan village located minutes from Jatiluhur Lake at the heart of West Java. Villagers have been using traditional methods to create pottery from red clay since 1902. The raw clay is hand-carved and molded into stunning finished products, with simple tools such as ballpoint pens, pencils and blades used to create patterns. The more sophisticated products include copies of Chinese ceramics. Visitors can also have designs tailor-made. Plered's ceramics have been exported to Australia, America and Europe.
