a haven for vegetarians
Simply Food, a restaurant and attached organic store, is run by the attached SDA church, which explains the various church literature lining one wall. Also, don't pick up the pro-vegetarian brochures with photos of mutilated animals on the table if you don't have a strong stomach. There is no meat of any kind on the menu and they are only open for lunch. Patrons order by picking up an order form, circling their choices and dropping it off at the front counter. If you pick up a drink or dessert from the refrigerator, be sure to bring it up with your order form to pay at the register as you leave. There's not really much service, but the workers are friendly and recognize regulars.
The place is absolutely packed for lunch with people lining up to pick up take-out orders. The food ranges from good and plain to just plain good. Favorites on the regular menu include the meatloaf, lasagna with cheese and reuben sandwich. The small salad bar is consistently fresh. There are daily specials, changed monthly, that are well worth trying for about $6. My favorites are the Indian curry with rice and the Chamorro dish with "chicken" kelaguen, chalakilis and spinach.
Simply Food is basically the only restaurant on Guam if you are a vegan, and the organic store is the only one south of Dededo. It's tasty, healthy and reasonably priced, which makes it nearly unique on the island.
