Hmmmm....
We have been to several of Roy's other restaurants while on holiday in Hawaii. The food and service are first rate, there is nothing more one could ask for! We knew there was one local to us on Guam, and decided to wait for a special occasion to visit. We decided to go to Roy's for our wedding anniversary, called to make reservations, and were offered a table 'next to the window, overlooking the beach'. Well. It was next to a window, a very small window, in the corner, overlooking vegetation, with a distant view of the bay and several other hotels. Not facing the sunset, either, which was a disappointment. The restaurant had just opened, and so we were the first patrons. It took an exceptionally long time to see a waiter, who never asked us if we would like to order drinks. We had to ask him to take our drink order! When drinks finally came, we asked several questions about the menu, and informed him we would be wanting chocolate souffle for dessert, as we know it takes about 25 minutes to prepare, trying to give him advance notice so we wouldn't have to wait a long time for dessert. (In our experience at the other two locations, our waiter asked if we would be ordering the souffle, so that he could make sure it was being prepared while we were still finishing our dinner). We ordered, and that was the last we ever saw of him! Our food arrived, which was beautifully presented and tasted wonderful, as we expected. Our plates were empty, and we sat for about ten minutes waiting for someone, anyone (!) to come by, and finally the hostess came over and asked how things were. After being told we were waiting to order dessert, she sent another waitress came over with the dessert tray, took our order, and as we had hoped to not endure, had to wait 25 minutes for dessert to be prepared. Hey, there's nothing wrong with a relaxed meal, but this was difficult to endure. We were in the restaurant, which was about half full, for almost 3 hours. Most of that time was spent waiting for one thing or another. I have to say, the hostess was pleasant and helpful, and just as I would expect the entire staff at a Roy's to be. After all, when one is paying top dollar for dinner, one expects service commensurate with the cost. This was NOT the case at this establishment, and I'm pretty sure that we won't visit again any time soon, which is a shame, because the food is superb!
