Völkerschlachtdenkmal
Description
Europe's largest war memorial was erected in 1913 to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the Völkerschlacht, the bloody battle which took place between Saxon and Napoleonic troops in the latter years of the Napoleonic Wars. The memorial covers an area of some 80,000 square meters and offers fantastic views from the top. At a height of 90m and with 500 steps to scale, visitors will need to be in good shape to make it to the top. Timings vary seasonally, check website for details.
i liked that it was right on the edge of town away from all the traffic noise. the place was huge and very overwhelming to think about the history that occured there.
