Brauhaus Vetter, Heidelberg

We went there on weekend evening and luckily found a table. Seemed to be a good mix of university student age and older, with several groups (locals). Bth dishes we had were excellent (Kasespatzle and roasted half chicken). Beer was average by German standards, which means good. Service was efficient and friendly.

Vetter always gets great reviews but I don't find the food very good and the service can be extremely slow. Either I have been on bad days or people are taken in by the kitsch.

I went to Vetters on my trip to Germany last Christmas. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I liked it so much I went back and ate there again before I left! The food was fantastic. We ordered a skillet with 25 little sausages on top of sauerkraut and potatoes, it is very heavy and you might not be able to move after you eat but it is so worth it! Throw in the fantastic beer and you have one heck of a restaurant. Yes, I had the Vetter 33 which is still my favorite beer of all time, of course its strong but its actually sweet tasting and very satisfying. Apparently, they are renovating the restaurant now but when I was there the whole place looked very old and had a great ambiance about it. I don't remember what the prices were, but I don't remember them being unreasonable either. Lastly, its in a great location, right down the street that ends in the big fancy bridge. Don't pass up an opportunity to experience Vetters!

Vetter 33, strong beer and while you sit and look at the old Brauhaus, thinking it could be 1907, take another sip and slide into the place... Good food to boot. Deep6---

Just a few steps between the Old Bridge and the main church in Heidelberg. The Brauhaus is the perfect microbrewery with a great variety of sausage & schnitzel dishes to go with great beer! Sit outside and watch the endless flow of visitors walking to and from the bridge or sit inside with a social great atmosphere!

Great ambience. Wonderful beer brewed on premises. Especially good was a potent double bock and their fest beer. Loved the hop wreaths hanging from the ceiling. We drank and sang drinking songs just like at the Oktoberfest beer tents only in a much more intimate setting.

I thought this place had the absolute best German food I have ever eaten in my entire life!!!! I think I actually almost shed tears because the food was impossibly delicious!!! I STRONGLY recomend you order a special they have. Its a giant skillet of potatoes, topped with chunks of pork, chicken, sausage and some wierd (but good) pork "spam" like meat... All the flavors from the meat soak onto the potatoes, and its great!!! Really!!! They also have the worlds strongest beer, which I found very thick and syrup like, but who cares if its strong right? They also got other beers, all very good. The atmosphere inside is great! Very Authentic!!! Overall, out of a 10...i give it a 1,000.
