After almost fifty years with only the small Ballhof stage, Hanover's state theater finally opened the Schauspielhaus (drama house) in 1992. It is a steel concrete building with a white aluminum facade, which not everybody really approved of when it was unveiled. The theater's program has an extraordinary number of contemporary plays. Since 1995, the theater has been organizing an event that only allows new dramas to be shown. Please refer to the website for schedules and timings of upcoming shows.
