Gyros House, Mountain View

The people were friendly, but I was looking forward to a Gyro similar to the Gyros I had in Greece. The bread was more like a tortilla than a Pita and the meat was not cooked with Greek spices. I was very disappointed.

The appetizer platter was great but the main courses were average... the meat was tender but not flavorful. I'll give some other Greek restruants a try.

There are many other Turkish/Greek/Mediterranean restaurants in the Bay Area with better ambiance, with larger menus, and with better service. But there are none with better food. The food preparation and presentation is fully authentic with little or no modifications to appeal to the general average American palate. I must have been to the restaurant dozens of times and I have tried everything on the menu. I am yet to discover something that was not cooked to perfection. I especially recommend Iskender dinner plate, but you can't go wrong no matter what you order! The only negative comment I have is that they don't serve wine.

Great gyros and a clean place to eat. It's a great diversion from the Asian faire or Pizza/burgers.

Probably the best Turkish Doner (Gyro) house in the area. Selection is minimal but obviously they concentrate on one thing, Doner. It's fresh daily. Owner is very nice and they serve great clean food. Hole in the wall for sure, and must have if you are on Castro Street.

This is run and operated by real Turks. Simple, consistent, and excellent. (And very friendly).

I really enjoy the food here, and often bring friends to try it. The atmosphere is very casual, the staff is friendly, one of the co-owners is often at the cash register, taking orders, and the food arrives to your table quickly. It's run by Turks, and I find that the food is similar to what you might find in Bulgaria, too, which is a plus for me. I have tried some of the meat dishes they have, and they are good, but the vegetarian (side-)dishes and salads are delicious! My favorite is the appetizer combo - enjoyed outside! Another advantage this place has is that they are open late - although not as late as the info given here (at least not every day; call them for details).
