Sonoma Chicken Coop, Campbell

Nasty food, thats all I have to say... The chicken was pertty much raw when I got there i dont think i will be returning there in a while....

I went there last weekend for the first time. The food and the beer was very good. The place was bigger than I thought it would be. There was a great Blues Band playing that night. The Band was Tip of the Top with Andy Santana playing on the Harmonica. The music was amazing.

The food was poor to fair. The chicken was rubbery (and that’s their specialty!). But my primary dislike is the buffet style format. Having to order from the counter, wait for your meal, then pick it up seems too informal, and cheap when their prices do not compensate for the absence of a waiter for the buffet-style arrangement. The cashiers were impatient, and condescending especially if you’re not familiar with the buffet-style format. They have spoiled children working the cash resisters, pouting, and rolling their eyes having to explain to me the buffet format. Sonoma Chicken Coop makes me really appreciate the value of a good waiter. I would NOT recommend this place to my friends.

I give it a thumbs up for trying to fit the needs of everybody! It was fresh, hot, tasty. I liked it because in the future, I plan to bring my dog (Chihuahua) to eat outside in the patio area. It's nice to be able to eat outside. Campbell is a beautiful place.

I had high expectations when I went here for the first time. I was disappointed. The food is nothing special. There is no service. You have to order the food at the front and then carry it yourself to your table. My daughter's field hockey team has their banquets in the upstairs room and the sound of the orders constantly being called over the loud speaker is very disruptive. The best part of this place is the beer, there was a brewery at this location before the chicken coop took over and thankfully they kept the brewery....go for the beer, not the chicken.

If you're looking for an elegant night out, Sonoma Chicken Coop is probably not for you. However, if you like good food and you don't mind carrying it to your table yourself, this is the place to eat! Once you get past the cafeteria style ordering system and actually taste the food, Sonoma Chicken Coop is a no frills, taste-tempting delight! The food is ten steps above the normal family-type restaurant with interesting daily specials and yummy menu staples like Chili Lime Grilled Chicken. Noisy enough to take the kids, this is one restaurant where the whole family can relax and enjoy some delicious food.

Pretty decent food for a place that has walk-up window service. I guess the idea is to offer fine food without the pretentious waiter / waitress in the middle. Guess what, it works. The prices are all pretty moderate, which allowed us to sample a variety of dishes. The roasted chicken was delicious. The garlic mashed potatoes were a hit with everyone in our party (12 people). The dining area is very casual and well suited for children.

A great place to stop before an event at HP Pavilion. The ordering is quick, the prices are reasonable and the service is exceptional. Might I recommend the duck, the calamari and certainly the fondue as a few of the favorites amongst our friends and family.

I'm a long time fan of "the Coop" and used to love the fresh and light edginess of their food they offered. My friends and I would often have the "what are the specials at the Coop this week?" conversations! I recommended this place to sooo many people. Unfortunately I would say in the last 8 months to a year the food has completely gone down the toliet. I'm so sad, as I really loved this place. I've given it 5 different chances in that time....hoping it was just the menu for that month or maybe a new cook etc. But 5 times of paying for terrible food is enough. Pastas overcooked and just immersed/dripping with too much oil. Chicken overcooked, dry and bland. Artichokes way over cooked and mushy to the point of no flavor and way to oily. Most items that my friends and I ordered seem to be laddened with extra fat, oil and/or butter. Even the salad I ordered came completely saturated in dressing so much that you couldn't taste any of the flavor of the fresh veggies or fruit in it. Very disappointing! I did hear a rumour that they started a new head chef a while back. Time to let him go if that is the case. Especially with the opening of Aqui across the street I hope the Coop can get it together. I know I will be heading over there for my downtown Campbell dinner fix for a while! Last frustration is that their website does not allow for any feedback to owners or managers so I'm resorting to writing reviews to various sites to get the word out.

They must be doing something right, it's the only business that's gone into this location that has been successful. They are very accommodating with a large group with reservations. If they know ahead of time that you and the gang are coming they will go all out for you. Interesting concept and the food isn't bad either!
