East Tomb (Fuling)
Description
Tucked in a grove of cedar trees this famous burial site makes for a scenic stroll. Built in 1651 it harbors the tomb of "Dragon Tiger General" Nurachi, the founder of the Manchurian Dajin Dynasty, whose rulers would eventually move south and create the Qing Dynasty. The three-story, pumpkin-orange building features 108 steps. According to legend, the steps symbolize 36 immortals in heaven and 72 evil spirits in hell, indicating the emperors' rule over the universe. Because of the tomb's remote location (15 kilometers from town), crowds are rarely a problem.
