If you experience feelings of guilt after sampling wonderfully rich and sweet food this is not the best space for your conscience. Crazy Chocolate, cappuccino cheesecake and cherry trifle are only a few of the delectable sweets offered at this incredible dessert place, which incidentally also serves pasta and sandwiches. This spot, with its black and white tiled floors and reminiscent old soda shop furniture, is a haunt for anyone who wants excellent desserts and a taste of the old sweet shop.
This is one of the good places in Winnipeg for deserts. HOWEVER, the service is not that great. I should not say that this is the case all the time. But, at least from my 3 visits to this place, two of them were not as I expected. The waiter was throwing the menus on the table. No greetings. No smile. Pouring coffee in my cup and out of the cup. Her look says " Get out of this place". I don't know if this was intended or this is that waiter's personality.
My advice to the owner that he or she should make sure that their employee know how to deal nicely with people. Thanks
Baked Expectations has been the spot to go since I was a teen and found it by accident. They are known for their cakes and pies, which are in huge display cases for all to inspect and choose. There's usually about 15-20 varieties to pick from. They also feature entrees and after dinner coffees, which are listed on blackboard menus. Seating is plentiful and can accomodate wheelchairs easily. Atmosphere is casual. Expect to spend about 12$CAD per person for dessert and drink. Service is super-friendly and there is take-away for that piece of decadence you just can't leave behind. I recommend the Crazy Chocolate Cake or the Turtle Cheesecake. Delicious! Be sure to grab a parking spot on the side street as they have no lot. (Wardlaw being the closest street.) If you're a people watcher like I am, you'll appreciate the by-the-window seats. This place has always been trendy, and I've been going there for over 10 years.
