Colosseo Ristorante Italiano

Description

Corydon Avenue is filled with Italian restaurants; this is one of the best. Decorated with busts of unidentifiable Roman emperors and illuminated by candlelight, this space is interesting and intimate yet still maintains a casual feel. There is no shortage of traditional dishes to choose from, however the cream of the crop is the Lemon Chicken Fettuccini. It gets better in summer when patrons can spill out onto the sidewalk patio and enjoy the sights and sounds of the community.

Superb
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/18/09
I have been a devoted regular for several years. The ambiance is very relaxed, the staff personable and the food outstanding. Colosseo is frequented by some notable Winnipegers as well. For fine dining or pizza and beer, Colosseo's makes the visit most enjoyable.

I wouldn't go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/28/09
The service was poor, slow, and rude, and the food was bland. We've given this place enough chances. It's time for us to find a different Italian restaurant in Winnipeg that will prove to be a better dining experience.

Not Recomended
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/17/09
Planning a meal out in this city is hard to do because of the variety and choices of locations where the restaurant is in proximity to home. We chose this place because its in a trendy part of town and had gone once before with good results. Unfortunately this visit was not as good as the first that resulted in an Not Recommended. The place was about a 3rd full our server was tending three tables. She arrived later than sooner to take our initial drink order, drinks arrived, I ordered mineral water and my date ordered a beer, neither was poured for us..So here we go, initial impressions are lasting. Then it came time to take our order, she leaned her bum up against a vacant table and wrote down the order, no offer of a special was offered. I ordered a Feta salad with baby shrimp and my main was chicken breast with spinach and feta cheese filling. The dinner came with a side of spaghetti and rosa sauce. Warm bread rolls were served, they were good. The salad arrived, it was wet with water, with hints of brown edges and under the low lighting may have been even browner, the feta cheese was crumbled into tiny bits and because it was so small you really couldn't taste the feta all that well, the two olives that were in the salad were old and not so full of brine that one comes to expect from a decent olive. The main arrived the plate was not heated nor was the food "hot",, remember the restaurant was not busy. The chicken was a small portion about the size of a small clinched fist and was previously frozen, the filling was over moist with the spinach and again the feta cheese was not discernible. The pasta was cooked well however the sauce was bland and not creamy nor tomato(y. My dates, food, a chicken Parmesan was a good sized serving but it was cooked from what tasted frozen and again not that warm. Another beer was served from the left and placed to my dates right, making her have to reach right across the meal, that was kind of rude. All in all a not very memorable place to dine in this city where there are so many choices and with so much competition I wonder how they can remain in business. In all fairness, it was a Thursday but since all the meals were not prepared fresh its unlikely that the actual food served on a Saturday evening would be any better, but perhaps the service would be. Terrible
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/7/08
We had a table for eight booked, our friends arrived first and the restaurant lost our reservation and they were kurt to our friends who left after having a drink. They did manage to get a table for us however because of their attitude our friends were turned off. We were warned by our friends of the situation and they managed to get a table for us in a different restaurant, Monviso, where the food was good and the service exceptional. I went to the restaurant to try to understand the situation and they were rude to a friend and I.I understand Colosseo has changed ownership and none of us will go there again. What a shame.

Love the FOOD!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/28/08
Love the food and atmosphere! Great service and fast refills. Love to go back, but was not impressed with the lack of personal service received from the Management. Tried to book a Wedding Reception dinner and was rejected even through on their to go menu, says "Call us for Your Special Occasion!"

Will never go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/10/07
This was the worst italian meal i have ever had. The service was terrible and our table was wobbly. Our server would not bring us anything. We had to ask for everything, and even then we had to flag down another server to help us. For an "Authentic Italian" restaurant you would expect freshly graded parmesan cheese and fresh ground peper... no it came in a shaker! I have had better meals and service at Olive garden. At least there we did not have to ask for bread and salad! It was over priced for the food qulaity and service.
