Kum Koon Garden, Winnipeg

The food and Dim Sum is so good at Kum Koon Garden that when I found out my new girlfriend hates Chinese food and Dim Sum....let's put it this way I am still eating at Kum Koon Garden and not my girlfrend...so dumped!

We visited Winnipeg over Xmas (09) for a few days to get away, and usually like to explore different places to eat, but the Kum Koon Garden had us coming back for more. Our first outing was during lunch and the Dim Sum was great, we also ordered off the menu to test the waters. It was super busy, but the staff evidently had experience with all of this. The food was hot to the table and was very good. We were so intrigued with the visit we decide to come back for more on Sunday morning before we left town. The place was a-buzz with people and the place was packed, but again not a long wait and the food again was on par to assure a repeat recommendation to visit from our first visit from two days before. I would note that this establishment as a “Don’t miss” place to dine in Winnipeg. HINT on parking: If you park in the lot next door. I believe Kum Koon will refund the parking charge when you are paying for your meal. We were unaware of this, until we saw someone else get the refund after we had already paid.

i have eaten Dim Sum all over the world and this is still my favourite.The variety is mind blowing and the food is so well prepared.The closest thing to gourmet dim sum you'll ever get.Other menu items are equally as good.Especially their seafood dishs.

The Dim Sum is fast, flavourful, and there is plenty of room in the dinning room, so the usual dim sum wait is overted. Unfortuately, there isn't much for you if you are keeping Kosher.

I love the food at this place, then the desert comes and even though i'm full I always find room for the red bean cakes, and the coconut buns....mmmmmmmmmmm soooooo yummy

Our family had a great experience at Kum Koon Garden. It was fun trying the differant types of Dim Sum, the shrimp dumplings, what looked like a triangle shaped chinese tamale, and the custard cups are some of the dim sum that stands out in my mind as being very tasty. Wish I had tried the chicken feet, I heard it is very good also. Though a little spendy I would highly recommend it. It is well worth the two hour drive up from Thief River Falls, MN

I love the food! But when it comes to the service, it's awful usually you'll have a communcation barrier because most of them don't know english. Secret is to know which one speaks english and the service will be on par with the food.

I have eaten here 3 times or so in the past year (it is relatively close to the office), each time I leave I hope to never return. The food is usually mediocre, the dim sum is alright, and the service is usually rude, but today they blatantly ripped me off on the bill and pretended to not speak English when I requested a printed receipt of the charges. They ended up adding a 20% gratuity on a buffet. I questioned why my bill was so high, and they responded it was because of tip and taxes. I asked for the receipt and questioned the inclusion of a buffet tip (normally I have no problem with that, but the staff is so rude I really did not want to leave a tip period), anyways they went into a huge performance of not understanding English. It was ridiculous, I will never go back.

The only thing I dislike about it is that it is not next door. What do I like about it? There's not enough room on the hard drive. Seriously, the food is outstanding, the staff is pleasant, courteous and efficient, and the ambiance is at the highest level. Thank you Jeffrey, (the host), for a most enjoyable experience every Saturday. Don't change a thing; perfection could hardly be improved upon.

This restaurant is simply amazing. Our office has been here dozens of times and the food has always been excellent. They have a wide variety of Dim Sum and even have a traditional buffet for people who aren't into Dim Sum. I really like it there. The people are friendly and fun to talk to. The food is great and it 'feels' like a cool restaurant when you're inside. I encourage you to try out my favourite Dim Sum Restaurant. Oh, interestingly enough, a friend of mine travels a lot on business and has been to Vancouver and China and says he prefers the Dim Sum at Kum Koon compared with the Dim Sum on his travels. Hope you get a chance to try this gem out.
