Bright yellow, green and pink interiors give this pub and restaurant an island feel. Completely refurbished in 1998, the restaurant features intimate booths and a balcony overlooking Hamilton Harbor. The menu features mainly standard American pub far, such as burgers, fries and chicken. Live music, ranging from blues to contemporary, is performed every night from 10p until closing. What could be better than grooving to live tunes with a view and a brew?
I wanted to pass on my comments about our dining experience tonight at the Pickled Onion. We sat on the patio which was lovely on a beautiful evening. The young man who sat us was very friendly at made me and my wife feel very welcome. Unfortunatley the waitress who looked after would not engage in any conversation with us and was downright rude. This young red head lady set the tone when she refused to take our picture! (she was too busy). When I insisted she get me a glass of cold water with ice as opposed to the first glass of warm water she rolled her eyes, Anyway long story short we have been coming to Bernuda for 22 years and have always had a wonderful dinner at the PO but tonight the waitress really proved to me that regardless of the food the server can make or break the evening. There are many other dining options in Hamilton that I dont have to put up with this kind of attitude. My prime rib dinner came well done even though I ordered it med rare and had to sent it back (which meant my wife finished her dinner before I got mine back) but I could accept this however I cant accept a server's attitude, If it was my restaurant this is info that Id want to know. Sorry but I wont be back to the PO anytime soon.
We really liked this place.....Went for drinks one night & they were small but reasonable. The next day we went for lunch & everyone liked their meals & they were priced right. Would got back there in a heartbeat. Like I said it was a nice surprise!
I ordered baby back ribs but they had smothered them in some sort of powder that I think was cumin. My mouth was burning so much I had to stop eating after a couple of mouthfuls. The vegetables looked nice and fresh but there was some sort of funny tasting oil on them. All I could think of was lard. My friend ordered chicken strips with peppers in a sweet sauce over jasmine rice but he only managed a couple of mouthfuls before he stoppped eating because of all the spices they had added.
The waiter finaly came back and asked how we were doing and was completely unimpressed when I told him we couldn't eat the food. He promply gave us the check and stated that he had included the two drinks we had at the bar. I feel that an apology was in order and maybe the drinks could have been complimentary. For this privilege I paid about $97 which included the mandatory 15% service charge, otherwise no tip would have been left for the flippant way we were treated.
needless to say this was my first and last visit to this establishment. The staff here needs an intense training course on how to treat customers.
I think the service of Pickled onion has dropped. I had to wait almost 15 minutes to be served and other waiters saw me sitting there. I was going to get up and leave..The hostess dropped my menu on the table before I even sat down..The waitress said its not her area but she would "help me out" If I wasnt so hungry I would have walked out!!!
