Salerno's Pizza Restaurant
Vince and Ida Salerno migrated from Calabria, Italy to Chicago, Illinois in 1956 in hopes of a better life and to live the American dream. In 1966 Vince and his brother Arnie opened a small bar in Berwyn Illinois. After a few years they expanded and started Salernoac2s Restaurant specializing in homemade Italian dishes and Chicago style pizza. In the years to follow brothers Joe and Adam came into the family business and opened more Salerno restaurants in the Chicago area. Vince, his son Rosario and the rest of their immidiate family moved to Arizona in hopes of starting their own Salernoac2s Restaurant and introducing homemade italian food and chicago style pizza to Arizona residents.
This kind of restaurants was totally amazing! What i like to their menus is their spaghetti . I really like pasta. that s why every time we go to this restaurant i was able to order spaghetti. So delicious!
Every time I pass this place there is a line out the door, so it s safe to assume that there is reason for this. We were lucky to get there with a minimal line. You order a base pizza and then add whatever toppings you want on them. There must be about 50 different toppings so you pick what you want. We ordered a white pizza with anchovies and a margarita with sausage and salami and a gorgonzola salad.
My wife and I come here from North Phoenix; a 40 minute ride. And you know what? It s worth it. Nobody else in the valley does original thin crust Chicago pizza better than Salernos. This is the real deal and worth the drive. The pizza is great!
All the great reviews are from people who dont get out much. This place is the definition of average. Employees are all really young and poorly trained. You get what you pay for, and this place proves that. The prices are low but so is the quality. Oh, and watch out for the tacky food cart while your there. And whats up with the random, unfinished/unpainted wood 2x4 accross the middle of the ceiling to hold up a curtain? Not sure if the place is still under construction or their interior decorator quit mid project. If your looking for a place to take the kids, this is it. The food is good enough for kids or people who arent out a lot. Otherwise, head to Nello's for 100 times better pizza. We had some Pasta with pink sauce which was the highlight of our night. It was pretty good.
