Located at Caprino Veronese, a town about 33km from Verona, this is a welcoming hotel restaurant, serving simple but excellent local dishes that alter according to seasonal produce. Typical dishes from the surrounding mountain area include bruschetta, bacon, salami, lasagne with truffles and fried lamb cutlet. The cutlets with truffles are absolutely not to be missed. The wine menu is fairly wide-ranging, and the service is fast and efficient.
My wife and myself enjoyed a beautiful steak meal 2nd Jan 2007.The Bardilino house wine was very drinkable. We brought our family back the following day for lunch and we intend to to sample the rest of the menu in the coming year.

We visit Caprino every 3 or 4 years and always make a point of eating at least once at Albergo Centrale. Friends visiting Lake Garda have also travelled to Caprino for a meal at Centrale. Small, friendly, undeniably 'rustic' and hidden away at the end of a passageway between shops, you can spend an enjoyable evening eating traditional food cooked to excellence.
The food is delicious, perhaps unexpectedly so in a small non-tourist market town nestling at the bottom of Montebaldo. There's no written menu - the chef comes out himself and tells you what he's cooking that evening, so you need to have some knowledge of the language. The last time we went, I had an exquisite hot bean dish with my main course and my husband was in a state of near-ecstacy whilst eating his spaghetti with truffles. He had a glorious home-made pannacotta and I had the italian version of shortbread biscuits drowned in a raspberry flavoured grappa.
The main shock with Central is the bill - which is ridiculously cheap providing excellent value for money. We shall be visiting there again in August 2005 and can't wait!
