Pickle Barrel (The)

Description

A small yet prime location near Warehouse Row makes it a great stop for busy shoppers or hungry downtown workers. The evenings find a range of patrons, from college co-eds to bikers. The first thing to try is the Fried Pickle, the namesake of this cafe. It's absolutely enormous. Juicy burgers and huge sandwiches are the standard fare. Domestic and imported bottled beer and wine is also served.

will never go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/1/09
If you want great fried pickles this is the place to go thats about it....my better half had a Ruben Sand. it was terrible he wants to know what kind of swiss cheese that was? I had Park place sand. grilled and sand. was cold toated but cold go figure. Beer on tap warm...staff acted like they could not be bothered. Won't waste our $$ here again. oh yeah what kind of horseradsh sauce was that? It surely was not horseradsh! Too small and stnky, dirty. Have had better food at a fair, baseball park, or football game. :( R + L

The Best Burger in Town
I love the atmosphere at this restaurant and bar. While the new smoking laws haveforced it to be less family friendly (no on eun der 21) once the law changes, be sure to take the whole family in because the food is amazing. When Debbie is at the bar you can count on some amazing mixed drinks and great conversation. Everyone seems to know each other, and making conversation with complete strangers could be the best idea of your life. Everything about the pickle barrel is great, good food, great drinks (with a huge beer list), and wonderful environment. A true Chattanooga original and a must visit for anyone.

Unique atmosphere, good food.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/9/07
The Pickle Barrel is definitely a unique place to dine. The building inside almost looks like it's about to fall apart, with raw wood lining the walls and a rod iron spiral staircase ascending to the ceiling. But, the food is great and the atmosphere is fun. Writing or carving on the tables is not only allowed but encouraged, which can provide some fun reading material while you wait for your food to be cooked. The menu features mostly sandwiches and a few other dishes, but everything I have had has been great. I especially like the Black Bean burger if you are vegetarian, and the Grilled Portabella Mushroom sandwich is great too.

Great Adventure
By Donna, 11/27/05
I live Atlanta now...But I love "The Pickle Barrel." It has been around for years. I always get a BLT when I go there. It is responsible priced.

Great roof top dining
By Caroline, 9/24/04
When I visit Chattanooga, I always consider The Pickle Barrel to be a mainstay. They are open late, the food is good and the people friendly. There's an excellent beer selection and the rooftop location is a great place to meet with friends this time of year.
My favorites are the Reuben with homemade kraut, Philly cheesesteak, hambuger, or grilled Southwest chicken wrap.
