The fifth largest in the United States, Multnomah Falls cascades more than 600 feet into the Columbia River Gorge below. When you begin your hike, the paved walkways allow for relatively easy climbing. Rest on the bridge part of the way up and snap some great pictures. The climb becomes more strenuous as you continue from here. However, several benches are scattered along the way. Check out the Multnomah Falls Lodge restaurant, snack bar and gift shop before leaving.

Spectacular
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/16/09
I have visited almost 300 different waterfalls and this ranks among the very top. My family traveled across country to see the waterfalls of the Columbia River Gorge and were amazed. During an 8 day period we hiked to 51 different waterfalls. Believe it or not, it didn't rain on us even once during the whole trip. Access to the falls is very easy and for us would really be its only downfall. I would prefer this waterfall to be 5 miles or more into the backcountry. We did, however, get the falls almost to ourselves around 8AM on a Wednesday morning. It was most definitely worth the time and money to see this one. I would recommend seeing this waterfall to anyone that even remotely has an interest in waterfalls.

crazy busy but beautiful
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/05/08
Such a beautiful place- a classic that everyone must visit at least once. The constant crowds are annoying but if you are lucky enough to hit it on a slow day you will be blessed with an amazing experience. The lodge is beautiful with a nice menu, the gift shop is great for schotzke's and bric a brac. Skip the espresso (just plain bad) and the snack bar (very dirty, rude innatentive employees)

Relax or hike, your choice...
By JENNIFER, 06/02/07
I do not have a taste for elegant food, but they have state of the art sunday brunch... A store is available for all your needs. The hike to the top is magnificent... Free to see falls up close, and to hike..

When in Oregon, you visit Multnomah
By Robyn, 04/08/06
Of all the places I’ve visited in my lifetime, this is my favorite spot to just think and meditate. I can stand for hours on the bridge overlooking the waterfall. . . Spend a day to take it all in and hike up to the top. It's about a mile to the top of the waterfall, and several more miles to the top of the mountain. Wear really good hiking boots or sneakers!
