I was out with friends last night and decided to give El Tango a try. After reading the reviews, I was looking forward to eating there. I guess I should have clicked on the reviews on other sites, because if tonight is any indication of how this restaurant operates, the reviews on google are obviously fake.
Let’s start with the service. We sat at our table for over 10 minutes waiting for the waitress to take our drink order. When she finally came over, we found out the blender was broken, so we couldn’t get the fruit smoothies we were looking at. How does a restaurant only have 1 blender when you have a few fruits to choose from? We order our drinks and the waitress disappears. When she finally returns, we have already finished our water, so she leaves the drinks, refills our water and disappears again. We have to go over to the waitress’ station to tell her we are ready to order, because after 10 minutes (we timed it), she obviously wasn’t going to come back. After taking our orders, she doesn’t refill our drinks, which are all atleast half empty. When she *finally* brings our food, they are completely empty. Our requests for refills were ignored, as evidenced by the fact she never came back to refill them. The restaurant wasn’t even busy--besides the 3 of us, there were 2 other families and a group of 5 or 6 people. Unless they are also the cooks, the 2 waitresses should have been able to have easily handled this many people.
My buddy and I ordered steak, mine was medium well, his was medium. My buddy’s girlfriend ordered the shrimp and pasta alfredo (I can’t remember the actual name). Both steaks were black on the outside and nearly raw in the center, with very little seasoning. There was atleast 1 bite of my steak where I thought I was eating a chunk of carbon. It was so burnt, the meat had carbonized. After we ate the edible parts, we realized almost half the steak was very undercooked. The center of mine was barely above ambient temperature and was almost raw. By buddy’s steak was similar, but being a little thinner, wasn’t quite raw in the center. The pasta alfredo was 4 small shrimp, half a bag of noodles and a spoonful of sauce. The pasta that did not have sauce (90ish% of it) was dry and inedible. The shrimp was overcooked, but edible and the sauce was pretty mediocre. I rarely leave a restaurant without leaving a tip, but given the option, I would underpaid the bill for the poor service and terrible food we received.
On a side note, I took the raw steak home, seasoned it and cooked it medium well and it was quite good. The meat is very tender and delicious--if you can actually cook it, which this “steakhouse” apparently cannot.
Very good food. We ordered fried chicken, pork chops, red beans and rice and plantains. My wife is Dominican and she has a very high standard when it comes to eating out, she was well pleased. The prices were high, there was only one waiter but he was nice. We will go back again.
One of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. I ordered a shredded beef dish which they did not have. The waiter highly recommended a barbecued veal dish as an alternative. What arrived on my plate was a slab of fat. There was barely enough meat in it to fill a thimble. It was simply awful. I will never eat there again -- ever!
I went to El Tango last month and had been looking forward to eating at this place. Well, my experience was horrible. There was only one waiter, the food took a long time. My daughter ordered filet mignon and was served a very salty flanked steak. When we mentioned this to our waiter he just shrugged his shoulders! My food as well as my husbands was also really bad. I will never place a foot in this restaurant. I had to pay a huge bill for food that I did not even enjoy. Please do not waste your time and money at this place.
I thought the food was Delicious! There was one server but I thought she did a great job with our table of eight. The filet was awesome and I recommend it to everyone. The food took about 25 minutes to be served but was well worth the wait. I left very satisfied and will return.
