A far-out experience off the beaten path
By lukeramseyski, 07/12/09
There are two Thomas Moran paintings that are huge and grand and worth the trip all by themselves. If you love Western Art, this is the best destination I've ever discovered, and I've been to a few of the big-name places. In short, this is a groovy, far-out experience. If you come to Tulsa and don't go to the Gilcrease, you are a complete fool, which means you are most likely a fan of Dick Cheney.

Family Friendly
By Lisa, 06/09/09
This was a wonderful experience for our family. We took five children ages 4 to 14 and they all enjoyed it. The art is impressive and the grounds are beautiful, but our children most enjoyed the lower level. There are many, many drawers full of artifacts to look at. Each artifact has a number that can be looked up on the available computers to reveal what is known about the artifact. This kept my children entertained for almost two hours. There is also an interactive children's area that provided much needed 'touch' time after exploring the art exhibits. The staff was very friendly and very helpful.

Breathtaking Panoramic View
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/07/08
Apart from being the preeminent repository of American Western art, the museum is situated on a high elevation in the SW corner of the Osage Indian Resrvation (Founder, Thomas Gilcrease was a Creek Indian), with breathtaking views of the land. A beautiful park, with trails is on the museaum grounds, as well.

Beautiful
By Debi, 03/21/08
The people are friendly, the grounds are beautiful, the history and art are priceless! Go, you'll love it. Very kid friendly.Good for groups too. The grounds got a bit beaten up from the ice storms, but the spring blooms look promising. There isn't a cost to get in, it's donation friendly too, so give generiously, or what you can!

i go every time I am in Tulsa
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/06/06
This is the art museum for non-artsy people. Its for folks who would have liked to have been with the first white explorers of the American west. Many paintings by white guys who were the first to see our American west. Lots of sculpture by Remington of life in the west. There are headdresses (NOT war bonnets) of the plains Indian tribes too. This museum is the gift of an American Indian man who became rich from oil discovered on his tribal allotment. What a kind and generous heart. He let everybody have a look instead of hiding it away in a vault and going on with his life as just the owner of this and that.

A Must See and Do in Tulsa!
By MaryS, 01/05/06
You can not beat the value and experience of spending a day or a few hours at the Gilcrease. Every season has something to offer. The staff and volunteers are so helpful and accomodating. Children as well as adults or all ages are welcome to explore and enjoy. A trip to Tulsa would not be complete without a visit to the Gilcrease!

Excellent
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/28/05
The inter-active area for the kids was excellent. Overall this was one of the finest musuems we have visited. We plan to return to see the Native American exhibit again.
