Bier Garden (The), Asheville

Bartenders are just bad; no one seems hustle to do anything. They have 20 beers on draft, but it always seems to be a struggle to find one that I like. The food is just simple bar food....Asheville has many many places that offer better food and much better service.

I work midnights so i got off the morning of my birthday looking forward to a day of rest and then socialize with my friends at a well known bar; Bier Gardens. When my husband and I arrived we ordered dinner and a drink, the rest of the gang soon showed up. We drank, played pool and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Until it was time to get our tab. The waitress had been taking our money the whole time (myself and my husband paid cash as we went, so i know how much we spent and what we had paid for by the time the tab came) the waitress put all of our drinks (for ten people) onto two tabs; one was $177 the other was $122. Some of our friends had left and we were getting ready to go when we sat down and looked at these figures. In horror I found mine and my husbands drinks on the bills, yes the ones that we had already paid for, I made my way up to the bar tender and asked if I could speak to the manager, she advised me to let my waitress know. So I did and I reminded her how we had been paying cash for our drinks as the night progressed, the short, dark haired young girl stood looking blankly at me and replied that she would get the manager. When the manager got to our table he sat next to us and listened to what I had to say about the situation, although to my surprise we still had to pay the entire bill with out an apology. I understand that the manager must be in a difficult situation. Watching us "party" and then not wanting to pay the bill, this is NOT however what the case was. As he sat listening in disbelief he said he would look into it with the waitress. He came back just a few minutes later telling us that we needed to pay the bills and they were indeed correct. The conclusion I came too, unfortunately was that the waitress had pocketed our money and still charging us for the drinks. And the manager would not look into this nor did he believe what had happend. I just want to warn people that go there to keep up with what they are drinking or you'll be taken advantage of. I will not be returning to Bier Gardens. An Asheville Citizen with a 24Th birthday story
