What a local thinks
I love Stella Blue for the music. The bartenders work hard and the whoever is charge of booking does a good job getting the great local and out of town musicians. A lot a variety means you should check the calendar to see when/if you care to go. The place itself is pretty grungy and the drinks are dollar or so more than some other places around town. If you're looking to do a lot of drinking, bring a fat wallet. There's cheaper places for that, but I'm a big fan of good live music and this is one of the best places on Asheville to catch a show. That's saying a lot because we have a great music scene. If you're allergic to dust, so sorry. And our local entertainment guide (The Mtn.Xpress) notes that they allow smoking but I think that's an error because I hate second hand smoke and I would've noticed if I've ever seen or smelt anyone smoking in there. I still gave the atmosphere three stars because you can expect the crowd to be nice and easygoing. That's true about anywhere around here though.
