My fiance and I recently moved to Hartford and when my parents came to visit, they wanted us to pick a place to eat. I did a bit of research and came across the Pike Lake House Inn. Glad I did! We arrived maybe around 8pm on Saturday. There was a large group of kids dressed for prom getting ready to leave - and otherwise we were the only group upstairs.
We ordered some drinks, my dad ordered a Bloody Mary - and he had me taste it, it was so good! The 2 loaves of warm bread with butter at the table were gone before our entrees arrived! Although the prom group depleted the shrimp supply in the kitchen, they substituted scallops per request for my dad who ordered the scampi. Mom ordered chicken parmesan and my fiance and I ordered steaks.
Our dinners came out and everyone was very pleased with his/her food. Our steaks were juicy and flavorful and done just right. Dad really enjoyed his garlicky pasta and mom loved her large portion of chicken. Another unique part of the meal was the vegetable that was included with everyone's dish - it was sauteed yellow & green zucchini with onions and garlic. It was great - tender and crisp with lots of flavor.
As we left, my dad commented that this would definitely be a place we'd return to!
I'm happy to see others have left good reviews for this place! I had seen it featured in the Milwaukee Journal for a great fish fry and we decided to try it out. Wow. We went later at night and almost had the upstairs portion to ourselves. The bottom pub area was jam packed however. Our waitress was extremely friendly and took very good care of us. I had the breaded cod fish fry and couldn't believe how great it was. I love breaded fish over battered fish (too unoriginal for me) so I was very happy to enjoy it here. The onion rings we got were huge and tasted great. My fiance got the baked cod. She though there was a bit too much dill in it but it tasted great nonetheless. Yes, I agree with every reviewer here. Two thumbs way up.....
Huge burgers and several beers on tap. Have some house label beers brewed by Berghoff. I have only eaten in the bar area, but it has always been good. Service is prompt and friendly. Seems to have a healthly local following which is always a good sign. Never been upstairs to sample the bigger menu.
We have been here a few times.
We wish it was bigger bacuse they do get busy. (But worth the wait)
We have eaten in both the bar and the upstairs and it was great. Make this a stop in you live in Hartford or just wanting to go for a ride and want to enjoy good food.
The staff is very friendly and the service is good.
I love this place and have been there with my family many times. Everything we have ordered has always been top notch. We prefer the lower level casual atmosphere. Plus!! They are UPromise supporters!!!
