Yesterday, Saturday, September 20th, had a reservation for 6 at 8 pm. We had to wait until 8 40 pm to be seated as the people seated at the table which was to be ours, who paid their bill around 8:06 pm (we were informed) did not leave and the management did not want to tell those people that some guests were waiting for their table. Finally seated we were informed that several of the fish items were sold out, scallops also and 2 of the steaks were sold out also. When we asked the wait person if the rib eye steak for 2 persons could be cut in half so that one could have it cooked rare and the other medium she said no. At that point the person who had made the reservation asked for the manager. He said he would see that our wishes were done. When the food arrive, there were 2 portions of salmon, one should have been very rare and the other well done. Both were well done. When we asked for another portion done rare we were told that they were out of salmon. The birthday person had to settle for a HAMBURGER!!!!! ALSO THEY WERE OUT OF BREAD!!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS RESTAURANT? DO YOU THINK WE 6 PEOPLE WILL EVER COME BACK? The manager did not even offer anything except I am sorry. FInally a new waiter arrived and at least we were not charge for the cakes and coffee. The manager should have offered a bottle of wine when were were seated because of the long delay but he wasn't well trained to calm down 6 good paying customers that will never return to the Met Bar. He seemed unable to understand what to do. If that is the way the owner Ms. Cathy Sidell runs her restaurants, I certainly wont visit the new one in Natick, MA.
The only redemption for this restaurant lies in the fact that it is better than their restaurant in the Natick Mall. We went to the Metropolitan for a holiday get together. The waitress was detached and unhelpful. They were out of my first choice for a Merlot. When I asked what else they were out of I received a curt response as the waitress read off a list of what they were out of. So I ordered a different bottle of Merlot - 5 minutes later someone else came back and said they were out of that too. My lamb shank was just fair, definitely not exceptional, the lobster bisque received luke warm reviews from my fellow diners. The desserts were just plain lousy. The tab for 5 diners was over $300 (the least expensive Merlot they had was $60). There are many restaurants in the area which are better, including Aquitaine Bis across the street.
My friend and I had a few drinks and appetizer in the bar. The Wagyu Beef tartare was not good at all. Both my friend and I took the smallest piece to sample it and told the waitress it wasn't good and if she could take it away. She was very gracious and told us she would take it off the bill. But then the GM came over and told us due to the high price we would have to pay. He insinuated we don't understand the quality of the beef used! I order steak tartare and 'kobe' style steak tartare in the city steakhouses all the time and have never had to send it back. After another confrontational conversation he did take it off the bill but was very unprofessional. Second time there and second time left unhappy.
