GREAT, GREAT food. Nice service the people are shyish. That is a nice break. I love the totally different style of food and getting close to your friends on the Ethiopian table. They really have to be your good friends, because you are CLOSE. For Newbies to Ethiopian food go for the basic, Doro Wat with Injera(always served with it, they give you more if you run out and make it themselves) wash it down with Tej (honey wine) or Meta(Ethiopian beer) (They do have African wines. YUM! If you are in for something new. You will not be disappointed!!
We came here because our usual favorite isn't open on Mondays. I'd rather pay the few dollars more that it costs to go to Zeni for the flavor and decor, but this place is fine if you want Ethiopian and nothing else is available. The atmosphere is sort of '50s Diner meets Traditional Ethiopian, but you could tell that the staff/owner had TRIED to make it pleasant, and it was clean and decent; the injera was not as good as at Zeni's. Staff was friendly; in the end they got confused about what or how much we had ordered but made sure to err on our side so all three of us ate for a very reasonable price.
Food was good not great. They sell spices as well which you would not know unless you ask or have been to their website. For my money I preferred Zeni but if I was in the area I would definitely eat here.
Note: Try not to use the restrooms while you are here
Not found in the best part of town, but the food is extremely good. The menu is small, but they have a good assortment of dishes. Many vegetarian options. The non vegetarian options were only beef and lamb though.. no chicken. Cheap prices.
This is traditional Ethiopian food. We had 2 vegetarian combinations. Came with 3 lentil dishes, collard greens, and a salad. The yellow split peas were quite salty; so were the red-colored lentils. The other stuff was tasty. Plenty of injera bread is provided.
As a first introduction to ethiopian food this place is the place to start. The owner is is always welcoming and ready to answer any questions you have about this extrodinary cusine! The food is wonderful and always served hot and fresh! My favorite is the lamb tibs and the ground lentil/chick peas in the red curry sauce (mitten shiro), and the injura is always plentiful! You know you found an authentic place when you see fellow ehiopian enjoy dinning within. The price is inexpensive for great food and you always leave full! I have tried other places for ethiopian but have found this the palce to eat! Take out is great as well!
i had the plesure of eating one of their most special quisine,
and am delited to say i would love to go again !
you should at least have tried it to know how it tastes..... it's a money saver too... one visit there and you don't have to eat for a while.....thats how good it is.
Expectations of the restaurant were much higher from their website. The food was amazingly good. I tried one of their combos and everything had a unique taste. I would love to go back and try something new. The only problem I had was their location. The neighbourhood around the restaurant is not all that great. If this same restaurant were to open in a better location, it would do much better.
