Best curry place I've EVER been to. The food is unequivocally phenomenal, as is the service. The owners and servers are some of the nicest people in the business. I'd eat here at least two-to-three times per week when I was attending SSU-- it never got old, as each dish I tried was beyond excellent. I had never tried Himalayan food before this: now I can honestly say I would never revert back to anything else! Well worth a try. Good lunch prices, too.
These folks stick to what they do best. A small, carefully selected menu with each dish consistently prepared to perfection. Sauces their specialty! Plenty of choices for vegetarians. My favorites are Vegetable Tikka Masala and Palak Paneer (creamy spinach with cubes of homemade Indian style cheese that is quite similar to tofu in texture & mild flavor). The salads are made with fresh mixed baby greens, but the salad dressing is the one 'sauce' that tastes bottled and is a disappointment. Friendly, family run place. Great for take out!
Chicken Tikka Masala at Shangrila is mouthwateringly delicious. Shangrila is master of Nepali sauces! The palak paneer, with homemade paneer of course is very tasty. Try the veggie momos (a sort of mixed veggie dumpling one dips in indescribably tasty sauce) The meat momos (ground lamb) are equally tasty to those who enjoy lamb. Mango lassis are fragrant and delightful. Aloo Tikki Chaat - surprising. Don't miss it as an appetizer along with momos.
The wraps at lunch are delicious. The palak paneer is very good also - if a bit heavy on the dairy side. Great flavor though. Chicken mushroom curry is yummy. Hot means very, very hot spice. The veggie momos are a favorite. Fresh organic greens in salad (don't care for the salad dressing though. It is one of the only items that tastes like it came from a premixed bottle)
The food is fantastic! Preperation takes a little time so be prepared to wait for your food, but it's oh so worth it. I ecco what another reviewer said, and that is that it tends to get a little crowded, but I can see why. This place ROCKS!
Try the veggie momos (steamed wonton like with veggies inside and delicious exotic dipping sauce), veggie, chicken or fish wraps at lunch are very good and very filling. Tasty chicken curry - with spinach or mushrooms. Delcious Naan - with garlic, basil, cilantro. Great with sauces. Food tastes fresh / made to order.
Other unusual appetizers worth trying. Right across from SSU on East Cotati Ave - Wolf Den Plaza. A student favorite.
