Adventure Lana'i Ecocentre
About the only kind of adventure to be had on Lana'i is of the 'eco' variety. This secluded island is one of the last populated Hawaiian islands to remain largely untouched by civilization or commercialization. Much of it is only accessible via 4x4 vehicle, bike, kayak or by foot. Adventure Lana'i Ecocentre offers three separate adventures, each intended to show a different part of the island. The Adventure Trekker is a three-hour trip that combines offroading and hiking. The Surf Kayak Safari teaches you surfing basics on secluded beaches, while the Kayak/Snorkel Adventure takes place off the coast. Call for cost of excursions.
This company has major problems. Paid for a Jeep, have receipt, however, no Jeep or any vehicle upon our arrival.
Efforts to contact the company by phone and email remain unanswered after 2 months. Filed with the Hawaii BBB, the company ignored them as well. We are currently pursuing legal action. Enjoy your VACATION, use established companies that have some way to reconcile potential problems. Honestly, save the frustration and ENJOY your stay. Visit tripadvisor and search this company, plenty of frustrated people out there already, myself included.
The owner ( John Lalanne) is a criminal with a History of arrests and convictions. Starting in 1951 in Texas with a Shoplifting Conviction, Numerous Abuse of Family and Household Convictions from 1996 thru 2012, various Firearm violations. (He lives in Lanai, I'll give him the Firearm violations). He is still up to NO GOOD.
This company is a scam. I pre paid for my rental in January for a trip in July. When I got to Lanai the vehicle WAS NOT at the airport as they told me it would. I called them and got no response or call back. THEY ARE BY FAR THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. THEY SHOULD GO OUT OF BUSINESS.
We rented a jeep from Adventure Lanai for the bloated cost of $129 for less then 12 hours. I was told on the phone that I would have the jeep for 24 hours but when it arrived (half an hour late) Michelle told me I would have to return it that night as it was booked out "first thing" in the morning. We made the best of it and had a blast romping around the island and returned the jeep around 8:30 that night. Michelle did not answer our call so, as requested, I left the keys in the glove box in our hotel parking lot and left her a message to please call the next morning if there were any problems as we were leaving the island the following afternoon.
Four days later I received an email from Adventure Lanai to let me know that my visa was being charged an additional $48 for "tire damage". The email included photos of a tire with thorns in it but there was no way to tell what kind of vehicle the tire was on or when the damage occurred; no time stamp. It all seems a bit sketchy to me.
If you decide to rent with them be sure and check in personally at the end of your rental to go over the vehicle so you don't have any surprises once you leave the island.
This company still took my money when the ferry boat to the island canceled service to the island. The ferry would not guarantee return service because of high winds. On the day that our jeep was reserved the ferry service was on the verge of canceling all remaining ferry times for the rest of the day and recommended that we do not go to Lanai unless we had to. After speaking with the ferry captain I called Michelle at Adventure Lanai from the dock in Lahaina to tell her we might not have a way back from Lanai and asked to reschedule. The only other day we could go to Lanai there were no jeeps available and Adventure Lanai could not accommodate us. They sent me a voucher good for 1 year instead of reimbursing me. I called to try to get reimbursed and left two phone numbers but did not get a call back. Then I had my sister call since they would not call me. We spoke with Michelle who showed no concern and said they have a no reimbursements policy and would not refund my money. I can not find this policy printed anywhere on their web site or in any of their emails to me. We asked for a call back from the owner that Michelle referred to as "Mikey" and he never called. The voucher won't do anything for me as I will not be back within that time. If you book with these people then know that they will take your money should something cause you to miss your reservation even if it is beyond your control. VERY unhappy with this company!
Before Lanai's owners decided to turn it into a charming getaway with big tourist appeal, this was a quiet, locals
only sort of place. Pineapples were the main industry, and the biggest hotel in town was this 11 room ...
