Over the years, my wife (who is Vietnamese) and I have become regulars at Xuan Saigon. We enjoy the casual atmosphere of this local, family run restaurant, without gimmicks or theme.
The dinning room was spruced up recently and large oil paintings of rural scenes in Vietnam hung on deep red accent walls.
The location is convenient and offers plenty of parking. The service is good and the value excellent.
The portions are sufficient, even if they don't match the usual over-sized plates of certain chain restaurants...
To respond to some early post, this is not a Pho house. They serve Pho, which I am told by my wife is excellent, but the menu offers many more options if you are not in the mood for soup.
I always start with Garden Rolls with peanut sauce, which are made fresh to order. The fried Tofu with Lime and Ginger sauce is the bomb too! I love the Soft Shell Crabs (2) served with watercress, and the Banh Xeo, Vietnamese rice flour pancakes filled with bean sprouts, shrimp and pork. The Bo Luc Lac (Shaking Beef) is pretty good too. There is also plenty of vegetarian fares on the menu.
As for desserts, the coconut ice cream is awesome, so is the mango and sticky rice ... or the chocolate mousse, I am told by my children!
Again, if you want to be entertained while eating or dazzled by a lavish decor, this might not be the place for you. But if you enjoy fresh, delicious food in a casual atmosphere, then you need to give it a try.
Awesome, awesome. The Pho here is great, nice size bowls and a very fair price for the meal. The noodle bowls with grilled meat are very good too, the meat is well seasoned and tasty. I love the fact that they have real Asian Green Tea ice cream for dessert! It's not too sweet like American ice cream and has a very subtle flavor. They also serve wine and have a selection of Asian beers available. We went for Valentine's day since we didn't have reservations at somewhere more traditional and they had a 3-course surf and turf special that was wonderful! It's a testament to their cooking skills that they can execute a grilled ribeye and lobster just as well as a traditional Vietnamese dish.
Very nice, clean, bright and friendly place. Nice crowd for a Friday afternoon, PHO was great, Spring Rolls were a little over cooked, but acceptable. Nice eastern european waitress who was very good. Nice price for the meal based on other PHO shops I visited in the DC Metro area.
XuanSaigon Vietnamese restaurant is the best Vietnamese restaurant I know of. The owner, Xuan Nguyen, is the best and hardest working cook I have ever met. She is very nearly always there, does all the cooking when she is there, and even comes out to the dining area to chat with the customers. The pork fried rice is the best and you can always find soy sauce to put on your food. The soup servings are huge and the meals are very attractively prepared. The restaurant has a quaint charm about it, so it is always a good feeling to walk in there. There is a television for those who want to sit out front. I like to look at the aquarium, also. You can call in To Go orders also. You will always find parking with the possible exception of Mother's Day: it's really busy. So park across the street at the CVS. Worth the trip and worth the walk always!!
