Southbank Riverwalk (Jacksonville Riverwalk)
This charming riverside dining and entertainment boardwalk is a popular riverfront meeting place for locals and visitors alike. You will find 1.2 miles of restaurants, bars, shops, museums and a marina. Riverwalk is linked to area hotels, including the Wyndham Riverwalk and the Hampton Inn Jacksonville Central , making it easy for visitors to take a relaxing stroll while enjoying scenic views of the downtown skyline. Convenient water taxis shuttle people to the opposite and Jacksonville Landing 's additional dining and shopping.
I love walking along the river...it's just an awesome walk. The thing we disliked, was the condition of the boards on the boardwalk...they are rotten in many places, unsafe and knots sticking up. Very dangerous. Sure wish the City of Jacksonville would invest in their city's citizens so we could enjoy the walk.
i really enjoying strolling on southbank riverwalk. your walking against a beautiful view of the city and right on st.johns river and than if you want more action you can take the water taxi for cheap to the north bank were there are nice restaurants and alot more action going on. I will be going back to jacksonville soon.

First, let me say that we did not visit EVERY place of interest in Jacksonville while we were there so our review is limited to the places that we did go to. However, we did spend four days there going to some of the places highlighted (Beaches, Downtown, Riverside, San Marco) in travel sites and books and it was just not worth it.
The city itself is unattractive, bordering on dirty. The highways are a nightmare - not just with the construction issues that seem to be going on EVERYWHERE but they seem disorderly and not well thought out.
The downtown area was especially dirty and filled with crumbling buildings and one PARKING DISASTER after another. The beach was pretty enough, but there are other places with prettier beaches and much better cities to back it up.
If you are looking to vacation in that area and you are on a budget I would skip Jacksonville and focus on Amelia Island (North of Jax) and Saint Augustine (South of Jax). Both cities have beautiful Beaches and interesting cities to visit between dips in the water.
I had the most romantic birthday ever with my boyfriend at the Riverwalk. We walked around the boats and since he is a local he pointed out all the historical buildings across the river to me like the Modis building and old hotels that are now apartments complexes. We sat under the bridge and drank wine while listening to the river. It was so great!! Even though the relationship didnt last the memory did!!!
I grew up in Jacksonville. As a kid I loved coming to the riverwalk in the evenings. I especially loved the huge water fountain and my parents letting me walk on the ledges at the water. Now living in Tennessee, my children see pictures of the fountain and the restaurants and shops and think it is a huge deal. I am finally bringing them there this July and can only hope it is still as beautiful as I imagined. Last time I was there they had the fountain drained though. I liked the memorial tribute statue they have for the service men. I loved having my picture made with it.
Being from Jacksonville, but not living there now I remember when the River Walk openned, and hanging out our heads out of the SWD building. (Of course I was a babe in arms and not Michael Jackson's kid) Christmas shopping was wonderful, as Hooters and the river boats that took you from Crawdaddy's and back. The museum is a must, especially if you have kids and it's still there. But alas, hold on to your purses and wallets folks... 20 years have passed, but I still give the walk a 4 star!
Friendship fountain at night is absolutly amazing.
The view of downtown from the riverwalk is unparalled in my travels. The lights of downtown must be seen at night.Go before sunset the view over the St.Johns river is absolutly breathtaking!
This experience is okay, nothing to brag about. If you were not from the area, there is no need to break your neck by trying to get here. It's just okay; don't get me wrong it's a decent attraction, just over rated.
