Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail Trail
The Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail Trail is a 14.5-mile multi-use paved trail on Jacksonville's west side. It goes through the northern corner of Baldwin and is used by cyclists, skaters, walkers, runners and equestrians. Distances are marked in half-mile increments, beginning at the Jacksonville end, and there are rest spots throughout with picnic tables at 5.5 miles and 12.5 miles. The eastern end of the trail is on Imeson Road, about a half-mile north of Commonwealth Avenue, west of the intersection of Commonwealth and I-295. There is no entrance fee for the trail.
I tried this trail out today and what a great place to ride. very little traffic at the cross streets you have to cross and great scenery for the most part. they have added a restroom which is nice. I only rode the first half of the trail due to it being pretty cold today (50 degrees) but i will definitely do the rest soon.It is so nice to be able to ride with no fear of getting run over by a car.
I like that you can ride for such a long time without worrying about traffic coming up behind you. There are a few roads to cross but for the most part you can ride without interruption. I've seen wild turkeys, lots of squirrels, rabbits, and some nice birds. The cow farm doesn't smell too good when the fields are fertilized. Luckily the chicken buildings are no longer in use. This is a great place to come get fit, back and forth it's 29 miles. It always felt good to finish.
