Museum of Science and History, Jacksonville
Nicknamed MOSH, this museum overlooks the St. Johns River and is near Downtown Jacksonville. Great fun and an educational experience for the whole family, it comes with its own planetarium. Exhibits include marine life, native Florida wildlife, local history, and the Holozone, full of interactive games and simulator rides. In addition, classroom activities and planetarium programs allow for hands-on, interactive fun. Don't miss The Living Room, MOSH's animal exhibit.
Some of the other reviewers were a little too harsh on this museum. I have gone several times and always enjoyed myself with or without my children. My children also love it and ask to return frequently. Contrary to what some of the other reviewers wrote, there is a great exhibit on the history of NE Florida from pre-history to present that takes up at least a third of the 2nd floor. Our favorite exhibits are the Wild Florida and Body Within exhibits. My main complaint is that the museum is fairly small which is great for the kids, but not as satisfying for the adults. A couple of exhibits could use some updates too. I can't wait for them to update the planetarium this summer. The new equipment is supposed to be awesome.
It is expensive to get in and the attractions are very BORING. I have three children 4, 8, and 11 and they were ready to go within 30 minutes. Not worth the cost of admission, I will only go if I can get in for free!
this musem has very little to do for kids. there is not a lot of anything in the musem. they charge way to much for nothing i took my kids there last weekend nad they were very upset and never want to go back
I went recently to Mosh, but I was very disappointed. I took my 3 year old nephew and even him was asking for more things to see and check. It wasn't a nice afternoon there. There's nothing good to see. Jaguars?? We have enough with jagmania stores. It's time to upgrade and give our children a really nice place to have fun and at the same time educated ourselfs. This is a really nice city and I'm sure we can have a great museum which we could be proud of.
Mosh has the potential to be a very cool place...even for "grown ups", but I was highly disappointed when I went about a two months ago. Most of the hands on stuff was broken and didn't have directions or an explanation of what it was demonstrating. I also went to the planetarium show and the "host" had no earthly idea what he was doing. He kept shining the laser pointer at the wrong stars...even a 5 year old could have done a better job. Maybe there is a lack of funding, but elementary schools go there on field trips all the time. If I were a third grader I would not be the least bit excited. Jacksonville needs to revamp this place!
There wasn't much to see,it is old and worn out. I love museums and this one just wasn't worth our time. Perhaps for very small children this would be an ok place to take them but for adults it just doesn't stimulate the brain. I suggest the Jacksonville Zoo, it has a great animal atmosphere with a minor exception of the animal cages being a little too small.
Since I am not from Jacksonville, I wanna go to a museum there to see history of the city and old pictures of it, I don't care about the Jacksonville Jaguars! Enough already! Jacksonville doesn't have to cram it down everyone's throates that it has a football team. We wanna see pictures of Jacksonville in 1833, 1933, etc. Its not a history museum, its an NFL museum.
I thought that since Jacksonville is such a large city that the local museum must be fantastic. I was wrong....the MOSH was a hugh letdown and I am stunned that they have the nerve to charge $7.00 to get in there. One exibit is a history of the Jaguars football team, who cares. I have been to many museums in much smaller communties then Jacksonville and this is a sad excuse for a museum and science center. I don't recommend it.
