Great place to stay and play!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/26/10
I had a great time staying in the cabin over the weekend. Very peaceful place. Beautiful trees in the campgound. Went and got some ice cream from the Happy Camper and took a walk on the beach. Great atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful. I'll be going back as soon as possible. Great rates. Fun biking trails. Beautiful lake area. Lots of neat birds.

kathryn abbey hannah park
By valerie, 09/27/09
i was very disappointed in this park! first thing we noticed when we first got to the front gate to pay our fees, the lady running the booth there, told us how much it cost and we paid the fees, but she didn't offer any materials on the park or information or maps on it and then we drove on in and rode around the place to check it out and we were surprised how unkept it is ,the roads are deteriated really bad ,all the roads had paper laying all over the side of the road and in the bushes along it and one area by the beach in a parking lot is debris piled up pretty much in the middle of the parking lot with about three dumpsters sitting all of the parking lot,a pile of tires and metal debris piled in piles and old picnic tables too! the other thing we saw was that your sites advertises a water park with fountains for the kids ,which there was no water on in it,in others words it wasn't even working or on ! i just thought it was ashame that this park could be a very nice and beautiful park and an asset to the community if it was cleaned up and kept up better than this and everything maintained better in it ! this is my opinion! sorry but, your park needs to be cleaned up way better! i don't know if you all even know how bad this park looks! sincerily ,valerie holley

Vacation involves getting accosted by guard?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/06/09
After weeks and weeks of trying, we finally got a reservation. Yet when they told us they were full, and I begged after driving down there in person, they found "1" spot. Yet when we camped there, it seemed a full third or more of the sites were empty all the weekend? so how could they have been so full? Or is it just too mjuch TROUBLE to take a reservations? My oldest son was following us in that evening after he got into town. The gate code did not work, and after several of the folks from the long line of people at the gate tried, my son called the posted number for assistance. The security guard came, made a horrifically debasing comment to my son's friend, to which my son objected. All the time this was happening, my son had me on the cell phone where I could hear all that was happening. Next the security guard reached into the open window of my son's Volvo, and GRABBED HIM BY THE SHIRT! He was going to pull him out of the car and hit him because he couldn't get the gate open! I was livid, and finally went up and got my son admitted into the campground. Later the security guard came and made several unwarranted remarks about my son to my husband and I at our campsite. The next day when my husband went to speak to the manager of the park, the security guard asked him "if he wanted to step outside and settle it like men!" So not only did he accost my son, he tried to pick a fist fight with my 6'4" husband. Ever since Hanna went up on price from $18 to $30 dollars a night I have felt they wronged the taxpayers of Duval County by denying the poorer families a chance at a modestly priced family vacation. It used to be the chock camp was full of families of all colors and languages. Now it seems only older folks who can afford large RV rigs are there since it is so expensive. It is discriminatory. Everyone ought to be able to enjoy the beauty of Hanna. The abililty to shell out $60 plus tax for 2 nights of camping is too much for many families who have every right to be there too. So why do we have our lives endangered by out of control security guards? Why is there managemennt who clearly DO NOT manage; the guards, the reservationists, the host campers, the maintenance workers? Mayor John Peyton - shame on you for allowing our wonderful City of Jacksonville to have such BLIGHT!! A major spot for tourism, and we are unable to show even a modest amount of hospitality. Shame on us all for allowing this to continue! My own attempts at dealing with this at the Department of Parks yielded NOTHING - others should try too! Maybe something could be done to save our wonderful piece of Florida, that was meant for ALL to enjoy.

An all time favorite!
By Karin, 08/26/09
When I read those negative reviews about this park, I am disgusted. We are full-time RV'ers since 2000 and everytime we come to this area, the Hanna Park is a MUST with us. It is the most beautiful area of entire Florida! To camp underneath those old high trees is soothing for the soul. The beach is in walking distance, the dunes are a natural wonder and the strand itself is gorgeous. I cannot remember any negative response from staff or hosts. Could it be that rude campers are getting responses they deserve? As campers we have to follow rules 100 %without exeptions. It would be chaos otherwise. My husband and I are workkampers and experience firsthand bad behavior of campers. Who wants to park next to loud beer drinkers or barking dogs or have dog poop on the shoes? Who wants to be disturbed when sleeping? The list goes on. It is all common sense, folks! When campers behave the staff is friendly, not the other way around. We must not forget that campers are guests there, even if we pay for our stay, we are still guests and have to behave like guests. The delays in telephone calls or registration procedures speak for the park because receptionists are very busy. We will be there again next summer if all goes as planned, and we are looking forward to it! The last time we visited was in November 2001, the given scroll-down date starts later. I am convinced that we will be treated very friendly, like the years before.

City cover ups for Ken Burke......
By dolphin6928, 08/19/09
What no one knows is that Ken Burke and Nathan Rezeau are not telling the whole truth....When Claudia Waldo was the manager of the park and the gators got over 6 feet in lenth she would call a trapper to remove them and put them in a safe new home instead of killing them....When Mr. Burke took over all he wanted to do was turn the park into a nature preserve and close the camp ground and areas for the children to play....Also when Ms. Waldo was there the lake was stocked on a regular basis to ensure that the gaotors did not get hungry....A gator will only attack if it is hungry and looking for food....The gator nor the dog should of died and the fact that Mr. Burke always blames everyone else is stupid....If Mr. Rust had been warned some many times before, how come there are no written citations to back this up...Mr. Burke preaches to right tickets for everything and what no one knows is that Mr. Burke wanted JSO to hunt down Mr. Rust and write him 2 Tickets for his dogs being off their leashes the Wednesday after the dog was killed...If Mr. Burke is so cautious then why have no gators over 6 feet been removed in the last 2 yrs since he took over...He was told by the previous boat rental company that there were 2 or more gators over 6 feet and Mr. Burke did nothing to insure the safety of the patrons of the park and that's why Mr. Burke refused to comment and started posting signs as soon as it happened......It's a shame that both animals died due to his stupidity. Reservations...Impossible!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/15/09
I have been trying to get through to someone for three days now. The recording continues to go in a circle from one recording to another. I'm surprised people have actually stayed here. From the previous, maybe they are out harassing campers to anwser the phones.

Great Park with Semi-annoying rules
By FredH, 07/28/08
The first thing that annoyed me about this place was that it's rules list wasn't posted anywhere online. I threw away the list of rules bit I'll add the ones I remember. Max 4 people per campsight but allowed to add 2 more people if they are kids. Must be 18 or older. No alcohol. Pets must stay on leashes at all times. Max of 2 pets. Don't move picnic tables or grills. Quiet time from 10pm - 7am (They will come yell at you to be quiet even though they won't say anything to loud little kids at 6am) Checkout time is noon. You can't hang anything from trees (clotheslines, tarps, etc). Max of 2 cars per campsight. Max of 2 tents per campsight. There were a few other rules but these were most of the ones that affected us directly. They have a "Host Camper" which unfortunately was very close to us who will drive around during the day and night to make sure the rules are being followed. One thing they were very helpful about was allowing us to leave parking passes for people who arrived very late at the gate. With all this said, I still had a great time as did the rest of the 13 other people on the trip with me. The bike trails were quite fun. They are not the most difficult but have lots of good switchbacks with nice burms on the turns for easy carving. I never had any issues with there being too much sugar sand. There were some nice challenging section of roots on some uphills but when carrying the right speed on the right line they were no problem. The main loop around the lake is about 5 miles which is not very long but it allows you to hit it multiple times in a day if you like. Having access to the beach was so great. We would ride our bikes back and forth to the beach all day and all night long. The showers and bathrooms were nice to have to clean up after a dirty ride or to clean off the salt from the ocean. I rode by the frisbee disc golf course on my bike at one point and it looked super nice. Next time I come I will definately bring my discs to check it out.

Rude Camp Store EMployee
By Scott, 07/13/08
Forgot to mention on Friday, July 11th around noon my sister and I walked into the camp store at Hannah Park. A guy with dark bushy hair was on the phone. We checked out the bikes, inspected them, and wanted to rent two. We stood in front of the man and he continued to talk on the phone for about 5 minutes, never acknowledging us. My sister finally interrupted him and asked, "how much" - he said $5/hr and went back to his phone conversation - which was obviously a PERSONAL CALL. We then decided we weren't going to bother with this loser employee and left the store - he didn't bother to even say good bye.
