Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, Jacksonville

I have my 3 1/2 year old Grandson in town and wanted to spend a fun day and the only real attraction in Jacksonville is the Zoo. The train ride was "ok" at best, you see lots of unkept area's, power transformers and the back side of buildings the animals stay in at night. I always remember the Zoo as a really nice place, but really feel as though it needs a serious make over, cleaning up and better cages for the animals, it really doesn't appear much different from the last time I visited. The plants and flowers were beautiful, the reptile exhibits remain almost completely unchanged. I think the zoo could plan for better utilization of space, better viewing areas for some of the animals. The dinosaur exhibit was awesome for a 3 year old with not signs or displays on what they were or did. The train: Could barely hear what they were saying, spoke very fast and like I said, spent most of the time looking at junky areas with only a couple of exhibits where you might have seen animals. I would go back again cause I know they need community support, I would reccomend it to others and I think it does offer a good value for a days entertainment. I hope they plan on major renovations sooner than later.

This zoo is outstanding. My 5 year old loves the train tour and the gorillas. He had lots of fun watching the water animals and loved the birds. He even braved the lorakeets for some hands on fun. Can't imagine which zoo the negative reviewers below went to but it wasn't the Jax Zoo. We took our 3 year old grandson on a cold day and had a great time. The zoo is very user friendly. Variety of animals nicely "displayed". Restrooms and other facilities are good. Prices in the Kids Store were very family friendly. It's a good looking zoo and nicely laid out. I'd recommend it to anyone. We had "military admission" tix available to us.

I have been to the San Diego zoo and after visiting the Jacksonville zoo I can honestly say they are both very good. I cannot understand some of the posts that are saying this zoo in disappointing. This is one of the top tier zoos in the country and is a must see on any visit to Jacksonville. The animals reside in their own habitats and there are beautiful gardens as well. The Jaguar and Gorilla exhibits are spectacular. You could easily spend several hours and still not see everything. Great value for the money..

This zoo is the BOMB!!!!! I liked thetrain rides and the closeness of the animals. I hope you liked it. The zoo is the BEST!!!!

I absolutely love the Jacksonville zoo. You crazy people saying this zoo is bad you guys are wrong. Butterfly garden, gorillas my favorite, giraffe feeding it is so great.Today I even saw a mother Monkey hold her adorable baby girl.My family loves the Jacksonville Zoo.

We are from Indianapolis IN and our zoo is amazing! So thinking Jax would have a nice zoo, we took the children and it was a huge letdown. There was nothing to really see or do. We will never go back. The kids were so bored, they were begging us to leave and just go to Chuckie Cheese! So we did!

we got rained on in the afternoon, but we didn't care. The Jacksonville Zoo was even better than I expected. It was setup well to see all the animals. Expect to spend the whole day!

Its very up close and personal, they have unique animals. It is a very neat and clean zoo. Take the train ride, you will get a chance to see things you wont by walking through.
