La Cruise Sandollar Restaurant
The Sandollar Restaurant offers a delightful dining experience with delicious food and a relaxing waterfront atmosphere. You can watch the river traffic sail by on the St John's River or even see a dolphin or two as you enjoy your meal. You can choose from a selection of appetizers including peel-and eat shrimp($7.95, or 'gator tail ($7.95). They also have soups and salads and a collection of steaks. They offer desserts and a children's menu.
I have eaten there once, on a Sunday afternoon. Not terribly busy, but horrible service. The waitress acted like she did'nt want to service me at all. She kept going for a smoke break. Lucky me, the cook brought the food out, couldn't find the waitress and finally found me. Food OK, Service just horrible.
My family went to the Sandollar this afternoon for dinner. Sat on the deck. Food was pretty good, but one of us ordered a blackened grouper sandwich which came with a special sauce. When it arrived there was no sauce and the waitress said they don't make that sauce anymore even though the sandwich is described with the sauce. I don't think the wait staff are "slackers" as described by another reviewer, but rather short handed. Our waitress kept apologizing. Note to management: hire more wait staff, you are killing your reputation.
We enjoyed coming to the Sandollar for years, The food is always great! But I do believe lately they have had a management problem and they need some good help in their place. Hopefully someone will bring that back to us? We Miss You!
Arrived at 7:00pm with a party of nine, 10 minutes later party of 11 shows up and is put on the wait list. 5 minutes later party of 11 is seated. At 7:30 we are told there are no tables available, but we could sit in the bar area, with 4 kids. They were out of many of the menu items. The fresh tuna tasted old and I couldn't eat it. I was given rice instead of fresh vegetables. They were out of baked potatoes and instead of giving you a choice of alternative side dish, they gave everyone rice. food was served cold and we had to run down the wait staff to get Knives for the steak. Lousy food and service. Waste of money.
The Sand Dollar has the worst waitstaff I've ever seen. The food would be good if any of those slackers could get it to your table while it was still hot. I hate to have to order another drink, or even ask for my silverware.
You can not ask for better food and service than the Sandollar. It is Family owned and operated and you can tell because everyone is treated that way with a smile.....The Food, oh my god, the best you can ask for. If you had a bad experience before just give them a try again i promise you wont be disappointed......
We sat outside because there was live music (which was nice) it took a while before anyone came and took our order. Finally when our appitizer, potato skins came they were burnt (charred). When we finally recived our food, my husbands dish, crab stuffed shrimp which cost $15 for 4 not so big shrimp that tasted awful! Almost like the shrimp were rotten and the stuffing was uncooked. My shirmp tasted the same and my calimari was also burnt to a crisp. It was very unpleseant and we will not be eating there again....
Spilled drinks, unprofessional staff. A bad sign when the first round is brought and a beer is dumped all over one of your party. "It's not my fault", wasn't exactly the apology in order. Then, one of the food orders was dropped on the floor. No direct apology, just a meek joke. Some of the food was good. My luke warm grouper portion was the smallest I've ever seen. If you like rice, you are in luck! It covered the plate (there was plenty of room for it). At the end of the meal, we learned that the manager did not know of the flying food and drink and no offer of a comp drink or meal was made. Several of us have worked in restaurants. We were embarrassed for them, but they were not.
It's a scenic spot and we'll be back, but only for a drink and maybe an appetizer.
We've eaten here twice and both times were disappointed. The first time the food was not good and the service mediocre. I think the location is great and the inside could stand a re-do and it would be a good place. The second time we tried it we thought "Hey, we'll give it another chance, maybe they were having an off day". NOT the case..the food was even worse and the service definitely lacked something. I think the location has potential since you can view the water while eating, but th efood definitely needs a re-vamping. Every time we drive by we can't figure out why the parking has ANY cars in it.
Arrived at 7 pm with a call ahead advising that 10 were coming. Seated on patio which was great. To make a long story short. Got soft drinks, 45mins later the appetizer arrived(hightlight of the meal). 1 hour and 15 mins later came the cold food, after advising the manager she made no offer to correct. Just walked off! She was advised several times of the wait and poor service, and made no offers to make things right. Didnt seem to make any difference as we were then charged a 20% gratuity for a large party! When confronted manager only could say that it was the waitresses choice to charge the gratuity. Poor management, poor food, poor service. Id rather eat at the Krystal! Which seemed to be the consensus of the others we talked to in the parking lot.
