Boy, are we glad we ignored some of the negative comments on this place! We found the food, staff, atmosphere, and cleanliness to be exceptional! Plenty of food and lots of variety. Everything I had was delicious. We traveled from Palm Coast because Lucky's is closed and Grand Hong Kong food is so bland. We'll come here often, now.
I've had the pleasure of dining at the New Century Buffet several times and it's always been enjoyable. I've lived around the Washington, DC area for many years before moving to St. Augustine six years ago, and New Century is as good or better than those around DC/MD.
The staff at the restaurant is extremely efficient. and cordial.
This place is dirty! Roaches stuck to clean plates along with leftover food! Food never at right temperature. State inspector found issues there too. Management does not seem to care about hearing any complaints. The one in Jacksonville just got cited too for about 30 violations! This company needs to clean up its act before someone gets sick. I have found raw pork and shrimp on the buffet. I will never eat there again, just could not make myself do it after seeing the dead roaches! Inspector found them in the kitchen too. Awful!
For Jacksonville/St. Augustine area, this is the closest Chinese flavor for a Buffet. We travel to St. Augustine from Jacksonville because of that.
They have many awards on the walls as you enter in. Very good consistently.
Could use more atmosphere but St. Augustine is nice. This is near a big K-Mart and other shopping right off the main thoroughfare. Big sign and can't miss it on the west side.
Has seafood and other offerings as well. You won't go away hungry.
Something like taste could come down to the individual and their physical makeup.
I cannot speak for any services except the buffet (which expands beyond just Chinese food into some European continental and some seafood) and it was notably fresh and definitely satisfying as someone who lives for the pleasure of eating, although your tastebuds won't be overpowered.
There is nothing to write home about in terms of the look or feel of the place except it's a comfy and clean layout.
The service was phenomenal but they are SO on the spot ready to refill drinks and pick up plates that some people might feel imposed upon. He must've been around seven times in less than an hour, and I have a feeling that the situation would've been the same if the whole place had been full instead of half-full. It was a non-issue for me and sort of comical but I'd rather lean on super-attentive than super-ignored with dishes piling up, etc. Just throwing it out there for who it matters to.
The dinner price was a little over nine bucks. I'm not used to that price because cities where I live are usually around 100,000 people but it's still competitive and being just a notch above expectations for the deliciousness (for me personally) it made it worth it.
