Description

Just 22 miles north of Leeds in the beautiful Aire valley Skipton's position at the southern edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park has earned it the moniker "Gateway to the Dales". It is indeed perfectly located for those seeking to explore the spectacular local countryside. An attractive market town, it secured its place in history as the last Royalist stronghold in the north after the famous Battle of Marston Moor. There's a host of shops, cafes and restaurants to discover but the town's major attraction has to be its medieval castle an imposing structure that has survived the ravages of history to remain remarkably well-preserved. A stroll along the lovely canal is highly recommended.

wrong turn in Skipton
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/26/07
We were traveling through England and entered Skipton in the pouring rain during their sidewalk sales. We missed our turn 3 times on the roundabout and went the wrong direction. We passed Henri's Bistro and being very hungary stopped in for lunch. It was the best wrong turn we had taken, the food was great. The atmosphere was pleasant and service very good.

The Best
By Denbigh, 2/17/07
Its one of those places you always dream of living in. everybody would enjoy it. the walks through the country which is very green and emits a tranquil air about itself. the little villages and the people are very friendly and helpful. Visit Whitby and And Mother Shiptons Cave at Knaresborough and travel back in time to the times of King John Robin Hood's arch enemy.Travel over the moors and see the barren but beautiful views, and the market in Skipton town centre is fantastic.
