Riva Grill On The Lake
The decor is mahogany, high-mountain chic, and the view of Tahoe could not be any more spectacular. When the weather is warm, enjoy cocktails on the deck for an all-around view of the lake. Get started with the Dean Martini, Wet Woody or a pitcher of Long Island Ice Tea. An interesting selection of draft beers is also available. The diverse menu includes Atlantic Salmon and Filet Mignon, bacon-wrapped with roasted garlic.
The view is great - Upon arrival, we asked if we could try the patio and make sure we wouldn't be uncomfortably cool - the hostess assured us it was no problem. We sat down and immediately knew we would be better off indoors.
They gladly re-seated us upstairs and we loved the view with table by window. Unfortunately, they were incredibly under-staffed. Our waiter quickly handed us off to another waitress because he didn't think he could handle us. The result was a very long wait for drinks, for ordering, for dessert and for check. Several requests were actually handed off to hostess, who came to take our picture and then delivered the dessert menus.
One entree we ordered was the ahi tuna, "not good". No flavor and inconsistent in cooking - some rare some not. We should have changed the order when the lady next to us leaned over to say the crab cakes were good, but they were disappointed with tuna special and thought the prime rib would be better choice! Our other entrees were fine, but nothing fabulous. Desserts were very good.
We feel that if we had been seated downstairs in "casual dining" we might have gotten better service - and probably would have been better off with one of the casual dinner choices like soups, salads and sandwiches. Definitely not worth the money! Would not recommend.
We went to the Riva Grill to experience sunset over Lake Tahoe. While the food was very good and the atmosphere was very nice, the price was higher that I would have expected.
We got a table outside by the window and located in the middle of the row of tables. This would have been ideal if you could actually see the sunset from this location. Unfortunately, the sun is setting at a right angle from where you are sitting and the view is blocked by the buildings in the area.
We ate at Riva Grill on 05/12/07 for dinner,
the food was good and tasty, however I thought it was a little overpriced. My wife and daughter really enjoyed their meal they had the Conchiglie I had the seafgood Tagliarini, our boys had kids meals that they enjoyed. The view of the lake is really nice too.
