Evans American Gourmet Cafe
This elegant restaurant oozes pure Tahoe charm. Tucked into a real mountain cabin, the surpisingly light and airy dining room has a cozy Victorian feel with its linen tablecloths, floral centerpieces and high-backed chairs. The Robb Report and Bon Appetit have given this eatery well-deserved accolades, and it is considered by many to be one of Tahoe's finest. Try the Rock Crab with Wasabe Caviar and Avocado priced at $9.95. Appetizers and salads run $5.95-9.95. The Peppered Tenderloin of Pork is served with apple smoked bacon and horseradish potato cakes for a modest $18.95. There is a superb wine list in moderate to expensive price range.
My wife and I have been going to Evans for 10 years and make our reservations before we leave home. The food is ALWAYS outstanding, from the complementary pate to the desert(one year poached pears with brie ice cream-fantastic!)The perfect place to be adventurous. I cannot say enough good things about the staff and the food. We would not consider a trip to Tahoe to be complete without a meal at Evans.
My family has been going to Evan's for over 20 years. Normally, that would imply a quaint old folks place, but Evan's manages to stay at the top of the Lake Tahoe restaurant scene year after year.
The restaurants at the north end of the Lake can be a touch more studiedly eclectic, but Evan's will not disappoint, with deft execution of conservatively adventurous food, nice service and a good value. Tables are a bit tight.
We loved our dinner at Evan's! From the moment we walked in the door we felt comfortable, they had our table ready and seated us immediately(one drawback, although they have a full liquor license, there is no bar or waiting area). The service was very personable(all women servers the night we were there) and professional. Food was outstanding, we had the Foie Gras and Quenelles for starters and the Venison and a seafood special for the evening which was Monchung(sp?) fish. All were superb, and the dessert was to die for, a raspberry creme brulee tart. GREAT wine list, a little pricey though. Nice ambiance, very cozy (especially if it's snowing outside the windows!) Just a terrific evening made memorable by the great staff members who really went out of their way to take good care of us.
