Folsom Zoo

Description

Since 1963, when a badly burned bear was taken in and cared for by the city government, the Folsom Zoo has grown by leaps and bounds. It now provides a home for animals that no one else wants. Wild animals include bobcats, cougars, bears, coyotes, raccoons, elk and a few exotics. Domestic animals include livestock such as sheep, goats, chickens and horses. The mission of the zoo, in addition to helping the animals, is educational. First Tuesday of every month is half off the admission.

A very good experiance
By tomp, 7/29/05
I Have been going to the Folsom Zoo since it opened in 1963. Through the years it has become a place where the animals are treated with respect and great care. The staff at the zoo are trained very well and they are very polite and like to answer the publics questiosns about the animals. The zoo grounds are easy for all to walk around and see the nice varity of wild animals that are taken care of with loving hands. I would recommend this zoo for everyone to see and enjoy. There are a lot of other small citys in our area like Roseville,Ranco Cordova, Fair oaks and Citrus Heights that do not have a zoo. Thank you Folsom Zoo for being here for are children and familys. Tom P /lonewolf

A Truly Different Zoo Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/17/04
It is true that this zoo is small but that is a large part of what makes this zoo great. The entire time you are there, you get a sense of being among the animals rather than looking at them through plexiglass. Each animal's story (how they came to be in this zoo) is interesting and well documented. I have visited many zoos in the United States and have always come away with an eventual sense of sadness. After my daughter (who loved the zoo) and I visited this zoo - I didn't get that sad feeling. These animals are unique and they also represent what kind of wildlife exists in our area. Highly recommended for children.
