Centro Cocina Mexicana
The dining room is decorated in southwestern colors and with authentic Mexican artifacts. The chef has traveled to and spent a great deal of time in kitchens in Oaxaca and Yucatan, as well as Central America and it shows in the interesting entrees. The enchiladas with mole negro sauce, a mixture of peanuts and chocolate are boisterous celebrations of Mexican cuisine. All ingredients are prepared fresh daily and selected with care. The full service bar has more than 30 single malt scotches, and 70 brands of tequila.
The food is excellent. But don't plan on eating or drinking outside. Because of some past violation of their liquor license they are on some sort of double-triple probation. If you eat outside, you will be drinking your cocktail or beer from a plastic cup (just like back in West Virginia). And bring earplugs because in an hour's span, you'll hear no less than 3 non-mufflered Harleys ride by. Not enjoyable outside. Randy Paragary should tell the ABC or City Hall to either take his liquor license away or leave his restaurant alone. And the City should enforce a noise ordinance on loud motorcycles. Find another place to sit outside in Sacramento. We'll not be back.
The title should say a lot: I always stop by here on my business trips to Sacramento.
The food is a refreshing departure from the usual Tex-Mex or other border styles of Mexican cooking. The Oxacan and Yucatan influences add interest to well-executed dishes.
The service is professional and prompt without the cloying over-familiarity so common at restaurants in this price range.
My absolute favorite in Sacramento - this restaurant offers many interesting, delicious dishes. They are inventive without being off the wall and the quality of the food is top notch. I can't say enough good about this restuarant....must be experienced first hand!
Everything I've eaten here has been absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is quieter and more pleasant (think less mariachi) than most mexican restuarants...depending on when you go. This just might be my favorite in Sacramento. Try the chicken enchiladas!
