Rusty Duck Restaurant & Saloon
This place specializes in seafood and steaks served in a warm, homey atmosphere that will appeal to the entire family. The building is a rustic, restored fishing lodge on the American River. Paintings of hunting and fishing scenes adorn the walls, and a rock fireplace adds to the ambiance. Fresh fish entrees, from catfish and trout to shark and swordfish, start at $15. Beef lovers will always find staples like barbecued ribs and filet mignon. Beer, mixed drinks and a variety of Pacific Coast wines are available.
Ordered the ribs and chicken combo with cole slaw. The chicken tasted like it was on the edge of going bad and the same with the cole slaw which was served warm like it had been out of the cooler for some time. Complained and the manager comp'd the chicken, subtracting $7.00 from the bill. Service was mediocre at best. Appetizers were the best part of the meal.
The food was excellent, the service was excellent, the price's were good! I was very happy with my visit to the rusty duck, I have been there before, Everytime I go I see the chef walking around talking to tables, he did come by ours.
I have been going to the rusty duck for about six years, and in the last year the food and service has just been the best that I have ever seen. the new chef they have there is fantastic with his specials. The service is great. I would tell anyone that asked me, go to the rusty duck if you get the chance.
My husband and I travel to Sacramento once a year to celebrate our annivesary and we wanted to try a new restaurant. We discovered the Rusty Duck since it was close to our hotel and we were pleasantly surprised how great it was. Since it was Labor Day Weekend, we expected the place to be packed but surprisingly, it was empty. We thought that might be a bad sign but once we were seated, we quickly changed our minds. We were seated in a quite alcove with a window/water view. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. We started with an appetizer of Crab Cakes which were FABULOUS. I had the seafood combo of Salmon, Crab Cake and Grilled Shrimp while my husband had the Pork Tenderloin - all items were delicious! The meals included warm Sourdough bread and we also had Ceasar Salads which were divine. We even had Cheesecake for dessert! Our beverages were promptly refilled and the attention given to us by our server was outstanding. With tip, the entire experience was well under $100 and worth every penny. We will definitely go back!
worst waitress ever! overpriced and lots of \"extra charges\"
By A Yahoo Contributor, 8/18/07
Our waitress was so rude and disappeared until it was time for the check...how convenient. The chef was very nice though. He came over to our table to ask how everything was. It was mostly our waitress who ruined our dining experience.
The food was average. We were not that impressed.
Lovely atmosphere. Good dessert. Nice wine selection.
It is extremely over priced to begin with not to mention all of the "extra charges". For substituting french fries or rice for a baked potato there were "extra charges". That is just absolutely ridiculous!!!
Would only return for coffee and dessert.
Spent $200 for bad service and average food.
We went to The Rusty Duck and the service was great. They had this specail running that was the best I have ever had, it was a steak stuffed with crab and spinach, with this sweet sauce, I would tell anyone to order it. The chef even came out to the table, I notice him stopping by a lot of tables that night we were in there. The place is great, I will go back again, Do not change a thing.
Two of us ordered prime rib and it was so tough we couldn't eat much of it. Trying to cut it was like trying to cut through wood! I mentioned it to the waiter when he asked if we wanted to take it home and I said it was too tough. He just passed it off and I told him he might wanted to mention it to the chef. He just walked away.
We were there 4/12/2007 at 7 pm.
We had reservations for 5:30 and were promptly seated on time. Thats when it all went downhill,we sat there for 15 minutes before we were even acknowledged by our waitress. I ordered the captains cut prime rib and my wife ordered the chicken marsala, both with ceasar salads. The ceasar salad was soggy and had no flavor, the chicken was so dry it reminded me of a meal you would recieve on an airplane not to mention the "Garlic" mashed patatoes were just mashed patatoes with massive garlic salt. My prime rib was o.k. but too much fat(about 1/4 of it) service was bad even though it was not that crowded. Buyer beware, we have been there 4 times each time its been worse.
I felt comfortable and welcomed right from the start. The appetizer was crab stuffed mushrooms and delightful. The Salmon was the best I ever had and the desserts were extraordinary.
I recommend The Rusty Duck a lot and the feedback is always thank you. Many say they have eaten all over Europe and San Francisco and this is the best food and the best service. I gladly recommend the fabulous Rusty Duck.
