This inexpensive and spectacular two-hour guided tour takes you through all the hot spots, back streets and secret pathways of this unique town. See places haunted by famous authors and artists. See historical buildings and many off-the-beaten-track places. The tour has been raved about in many, many media outlets including Bay Area Back Roads and USA Today. Definitely not a thing to miss, this is a perfect way to familiarize yourself with Carmel. No credit cards are accepted.
I've visited Carmel many times and know the town quite well, but Gale's guided walk was still well worth the $25.00. Carmel has so many delightful nooks and crannies that one is unlikely to just find them all serendipitously. I certainly discovered some new ones. As a longtime resident, Gale also provided some interesting history about the town and its residents.
Disorganized, unprepared, and unprofessional, we learned next to nothing about Carmel on a meandering "tour" of many shops of Carmel which any out-of-towner could do as well--or probably better! Save that $25/person and 90 minutes of your life, get a local map (all the stores provide free ones) and do the walk on your own.
For the last 12 years, a beautiful samoyed, a yellow lab, and three walkers start in downtown Carmel for a three mile walk. We circle down to the beach, along the path, over to the Point, and back to our cars. When it is dark, the stores are lit and that adds a soft glow. Two coffee shops are open in both directions from Lincoln.
All the locals are friendly and you can walk down the middle of the streets. Don't miss it. The best of CARMEL.
We were taken to interesting places that we didn't know about and couldn't possibly find on our own. It was evident that Gale, our guide, had done extensive research and provided us with excellent information.
We would never have found all the charming and secluded places we saw on the tour. It was fun and informative. The guide was very knowledgable and helpful. We recommend taking the tour when you first arrive, as it helps in planning the rest of your stay there. Our dog was welcome to come with us too!
I decided to take the walking tour while my husband was at a meeting. I'm sure glad I did because I never knew all the history behind Carmel, plus I saw and heard many things for the first time, even though we'd been there before. Loved it!
A fascinating look at the village that began as a bohemian art colony. Discover secret pathways, courtyards and gardens. Learn about the history, artists and architecture. I have been to Carmel many times, but had never realized what I was missing until I took this walking tour.
