A.W. Shucks, Carmel-by-The-Sea

There are new owners since any of the bad reviews were posted. This place has been refreshed and it's an all new experience. ALL the food is excellent. The man who usually shucks the oysters is awesome! And so very nice, as are all the waitstaff. They used to have headache loud music but the new owners have it nicely in the background now so you don't have to shout to your friends you are dining with. The poster who said the seafood wasn't fresh is just wrong. We have never in over 10 years had anything but the freshest. And I am very, very picky about seafood. This place used to be all junked up with paraphanalia all over the windows, etc., now it's clean and the windows are very clear to watch the passings in town but darker on the outside so you feel stared at inside like some other places in town,. Great experience every time now. I know there was talk way back of changing the undersea wall mural and I suspect the wonderful people who now own it left it out of respect for a departed man beloved in our town. Great place for young and old. You youngsters would like it better than most on the main drag on Ocean.

Once you walk in to A.W. Shucks you get that vibe that you are about to have to best meal. The appearence of the place is just to another world, the underwater world! The food is just plain amazing! They have everything from their famous oysters, which I cannot stop thinking about (even to this day) to great non-seafood. The service is great too. The couple that manage the place are great too! Its a pretty popular place, so it fills up. But thats when you know the wait it SO worth it!

Could not handle lunch time crowd. Lost track of who was in line, sent us to the bar to wait for table, told us they did not need our name and then proceeded to sit everyone in front of us despite our repeated reminders that we were waiting. Then told us we would have to wait longer because tables were full. Staff was rude an unapologetic. We left. Asked some folks who were leaving how was the food. They indicated shellfish was not fresh and other food was greasy. Go to Flaherty's instead as this place and staff were horrible.

Great atmosphere, quick, friendly, smart service. Tasty fresh food. Busy Friday night, sat at the bar, met the owners. We will be back and bring our friends!

We visited in August of 2007 when we met Michelle, one of the owners. The service, and food was wonderful. We knew we would be back. Well, we're back, and it's only September. We got to meet Michael, another of the owners, and Joanna, a really nice and attentive waitress. My boyfriend and I dine frequently and absolutely love to travel and try new places to eat. A.W. Shucks was sincerely the worst dining experience I've ever had. The waitress was rude, got my order wrong, refused to even answer with a "yes" when we asked for water, and persistently ignored us. The food was good, slightly greasy, but entirely too over-priced. I don't mind paying for good food, but we payed nearly $40 for two drinks, and two greasy baskets of fish and chips. Save your time and your money and go somewhere else!

Best clam chowder we've had at a restaurant in over 25 years! The atmosphere pleasant, friendly and comfortable. It is obvious the owners care about their clientele and their business. Would highly recommend, even to the most discriminating.

everything,that they serve,and the people and the atmosphere,it is all wonderful,and we would recommend it to everyone. you will not be dissapointed by eating there. it is a great place to spend some time.
