Claiming to have the largest breakfast menu on the West Coast, this traditional country kitchen is popular with everyone in Carmel, and it has been around for almost 20 years. On the menu you will find several types of waffles and other gourmet breakfast edibles, served all day long. There are even 10 different Eggs Benedict dishes. Many repeat customers constantly flock to this legendary place, and the service is downright spectacular.
We just ate at Katy's in Carmel based on the wonderful reviews we read. We found the place to be expensive for breakfast. I had a waffle with a few sliced strawberries on top for $12.50! No side dishes came with the meal so I ordered a side of corned beef hash (which was delicious!) for $8.50. They don't have a kids menu (except for offering smaller versions of 2 items on the menu for $8.50 instead of $12.50) For 2 of us and one toddler to eat our bill was $60. Pretty outrageous to us for a breakfast that wasn't all that great. It was also very crowded and we were sitting right on top of the people next to us. We were very disappointed and probably won't return.
Best in the world. Every dish on the menu is large and delicious. The only place to eat breakfast in Carmel. W orth the drive from anywhere in Northern Californa. Service was excellent, everyone is friendly.
It was crowded and the decor seemed like it was chosen a couple of decades ago....felt like I was in a country diner-type place in a small town in Texas, rather than quaint and sophisticated Carmel.
HOWEVER...the food totally outweighs the ambiance, which is why I still gave Katy's Place 5 stars. It was fabulous! In fact, we liked it so much, we went there 3 days in a row. I loved the eggs benedict the best. The bacon was cooked to perfection, crisp, but not burnt. Everything was hot and they kept my coffee cup full. They probably could have employed one more server, because if you needed something, you really had to catch someone as they were walking by - I think they only had 2 servers and a busboy, who were all 3 very busy.
The prices are Carmel prices...slightly high, but you expect that when eating downtown.
This place easily has one of the best breakfasts you'll find anywhere on the planet. I'm a marathoner/endurance runner so I burn a ton of carbs per day, so suffice to say I've become a bit of a breakfast snob. I constantly look for exotic and different places to fill my body with those lovely carbohydrates, and Katy's is like a meal in heaven.
If you're on the unique or different side, you must try their peanut butter pancakes, every bite is like a savory dessert. Also try their lobster benedict, just incredible.
I gorged here twice, the day before the Big Sur marathon and the day after. And now I'm in London, which doesn't have anything remotely close to Katy's. Oh well, it's an excuse to come back!
The nice people at Katy's will keep the hot coffee coming and bring you the largest tastiest Breakfast imaginable! Be prepared with a big appetite or plenty to share with a friend, and take cash because they don't do C/C. It's not everyday you can have lobster omlettes, smoked salmon and caviar benny for breakfast- plus all the normal breakfast menu goodies! Not to be missed!
Terrific range to choose from ....great bacon and eggs although the mound of potatoes was an unexpected breakfast side dish. The only negative was that (and this applied across the States) nobody seems able to make tea properly,
From Scratch is a great place to catch breakfast or lunch. It's a casual atmosphere with good, homestyle food. Our family had breakfast there this morning, and it was delicious - the eggs were fluffy, the fruit was fresh, pancakes and waffles were yummy. There is a children's menu, which is a good value. We've been there over the years and it has been consistently good. Reasonable prices. Oh, and their lunch is terrific as well. My nine year old still remembers the delicious hamburger she had there a year ago!
Katy's Place had the worst breakfast I had the displeasure of having in my 8 day stay throughout central California.
My fried eggs were reduced to a crispy brown mass. The fried potatoes were one shade from black and had a faint "fishy" taste.
The bacon also was fried into oblivion.
My wife has a hot cereal with looked very unappealing.
The restaurant appearance is very charming.
I did read the reviews prior to my visit to California and wanted to try Katy's Place, but sadly was very disappointed.
The dining experience here is superb. On the walls inside, find license plates, skillets, signs, toys, and all sorts of
collectibles. On the patio outside is a stone rotisserie that cooks many of the meats. The menu has an ...
