If I could rate ZERO stars I would. My husband had previously eaten here and enjoyed the food. A few weeks later, we visited again by drive-thru. I ordered a sliced smoked turkey sandwich & ff. When we arrived home, I started eating my sandwich. It was NOT smoked turkey- but some kind of processed meat with a gel like coating. It was sick. OK, I thought, I will just eat my FF and speak with the owner tomorrow. Well, my FF were not cooked all the way. My loving husband offered to take the food back and get something else. He returned and the young man working the drive thru said, That is what we have and were out of meat and shut the window. He didn t offer a refund and acted like we were a pain. I do understand it was near closing, but he should have told us when we placed the order. Instead we were out $12 for food that was not fit for my dog. I tried to call the next day with no answer. I make it a point to tell EVERYONE I know NOT to eat at Poor Daddy s Smokehouse. I would take a good look at what you re eating the next time you order from here!
It is the best dang BBQ in Mid-Cities. Great for just a small place. The veggies are fantastic and you have GOT to try the banana pudding. OMG, I could have eaten a pint of that! I would go everyday if I could afford the calories. The people there are very friendly.
First class hole in the wall! Sliced Brisket sandwich was as good and you'll find anywhere and cooking with hickory is definitely the way to go! Only had one side, the green bean. Burned my tongue because I didn't want to stop. I'll be back!
Don't let that last review fool you. This place is great! And it really is the sauce that makes it. I actually happened upon it one day and don't even bother with Colter's, Dickey's or any other random chain of barbecue restaurants that comes along.
And they're sloppy joe is actually...GOOD, and for less than two bucks, I'd say it's a great deal too!
p.s. It's now called Smokehouse 3, but the recipes and people are STILL the same.
It was okay, not the best. The sausage is good, but they are always out of something. I eat barbecue about 2 a week and when I eat it I want meat, sides, and good portions (Great service just makes it a whole lot better). This place is lacking a little in those departments. The best place I have found is Cousin's in Fort Worth. Now that is a great place to eat trust me. I just stopped going cause I moved to Haltom City and I figured I would try Hammer's cause it was closer, but now I know I will drive the distance. It's worth it.
It makes me speechless how good their food is. The meat is never dry or oversalted...and even the sloppy joes taste like they weren't sloppily made!
I suggest the chopped or sliced beef sandwiches, but the sloppy joe is a steal at less than $2!
The secret's in the sauce though...never tasted anything as nice. I also appreciate that their closed on Sundays. Owned by great people, with a great philosophy for life and food.
